Question about HP Pavilion N5415 Notebook

1 Answer

Tops of two keys have come off how do I put back on?

Keyboard for HP Pavilion Notebook Portable.

The tops of the Letters H and J have come off. These keys still function fine but it would be a lot easier if their little tops where able to be replaced.

How can I replace the tops of the keys?

They can be replaced, with infact the same keys you took off, just Find The Keys, Place any holders it needs in the back of the Key and Apply pressure until you hear a click and the keys will go back on. If you have lost any holders call HP for replacement ones, but im thinking you would get a new keyboard instead.

Hope This Helps

When my number lock is on the letters will not print as stated they will print a number or other

This is normal for a keyboard with embedded number pad, rather than a separate 10-key area. Turn off the number lock to type the alphabetical characters and use the top row of numbers to enter values. Turn on the number lock when entering only a long string of numbers.

Alternatively, connect a USB external keyboard to the notebook. Either get a large keyboard with a separate number pad or get a 10-keypad only (http://www.cyberguys.com/product-details/?productid=37379 ). Then you can have a normal keyboard and stil have the 10-key functions without toggling the NumLock often.

I hope this helps.

Check 2nd Function keys. The problem you describe is normally a Fn +numlock keystroke on most systems

When I type on my HP Satellite and press the G or T keys, it returns G] and T-.

Sounds like your number lock is on. Hold down the "Fn" key and press the "Num Lock" key labeled in blue letters.

If that's not the case, your keyboard might be bad and needs to be replaced. You can get a new keyboard on eBay or, if your computer is still under warranty, you can send it back to HP and they will fix it for you.

IF YOU SEND your computer to HP, back up all your data! They will probably send you a different computer!

Symbols

You hit a keystroke combination. You'll have to press the Fn key in the lower left side of your keyboard and one of the special function keys (in a HP, I think it's something like F11 or F12--look at the symbols on the keyboard. Anyway, that combo locks the special characters on. Just hit it again to get back to normal typing.

The num lock key controls letters on regular keyboard.

Let Number key stay off then you could use normal 1234567890 that is between QWERTYUIOP and F1-F12
