The TZ series is not known for good indoor pictures. T Z is short fot Travel Zoom. The is great for outdoor pictures and long distance shots.

Indoors, be sure you use flash and your subject is within 8 feet so flash light can reach them. Let the camera select the proper settings using the Intelligent ISO setting.. Or set it to Night slow shutter speed) while holding the camera, and subject very still for 3 seconds after shutter press, and with Image Stabilization on.

Also, don't forget if you are viewing the pics on your big screen PC, then the pics will always look worse than they will either on your Camera screen professionally printed pix fo 5x7, which will likely be fine to acceptable. If you get up to 9x10 printed sizes, then you will likely see what you would see on a large PC screen....not very good.

There is a chance you have a bad camera. If it is under warranty, take it to a panasonic repair center locally. I am afraid if you send it off to a depot, they may charge you while declaring nothing is wrong with it.

Hello! I actually have a TZ3 and have been having problems with the quality of the pictures without using the zoom (grainy) as well as problems with the quality of the picture when using the zoom...

Hello, yes a few suggestions "grainy" could be from an auto ISO setting the sensor speed high as in possibly ISO 400 even 800 or higher you get the pictures but it's grainy. On pocket point and shooters this is most often the case in full automatic modes and on your camera it's called "Intelligent ISO Mode" You should consult your manual and select a more user selectable ISO speed manually. Another feature with your camera is image stabilization this you can turn on or off preferably off when the camera is mounted to a tripod. Okay for the blurry part on the zoom the quickest way to explain this is every tiny movement you make holding the camera is magnified 10 times, this is where the image stabilizing feature would be handy. Jennifer in my younger days I could hold a 35mm camera with a 300mm lens steady at 1/60 of a second now I use only a 200mm lens with image stabilization "on" to get the same results. What you have is a full time auto everything camera if it's working for you it doesn't matter if it's 3.5 years old. You are still working with a 7.2meg camera with a print capability of 11x14. hope this answered some of your questions.

Lumix pictures blurry

I would suggest that the image stabilizer might not be working right. Could you upload a photo to Flickr or other location where I could look at the EXIF, or list it here. I would like to see what the camera is writing to the image as the settings when the photo was taken.

Does it make a difference when the image stabilizer is on or off?

My Panasonic Lumix® DMC-ZS3 will not focus properly. All pictures are blurry. Anyone know what might be the problem?

Try checking your settings or menu for a vibration sensor or changing the focus. You might also be using the wrong setting, like indoor, when you're at the beach. You can also change the quality of the pictures and if you are taking still photography or movement.

Is the flash going off? Have you tried slow shutter sync with your flash indoors for some great shots.

Blue photos from a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 digital camera

Hello,
It might be an idea to check whether your "white balance" is not set to "fluorescent light" or "custom white balance". "Auto" is the safest option here. Incorrect white balance would cause blue/yellow cast on the picture. Otherwise the problem might be more severe (i.e. sensor failure-not common in TZ3 though).
If you're still getting blue cast with white balance set to auto, you can try to set "custom white balance" with white sheet of paper (refer to the manual for details) - this will override auto white balance.
Good luck!

Very grainy pictures indoors at night

If you can adjust the ISO sensitivity to a lower number then the graininess will be reduced.

However, by reducing the ISO, you will need a slower shutter speed and a larger aperture. A tripod, table or other support may be necessary.

The "noise reduction" setting on the camera can also be adjusted a step up.

Taking pictures at full resolution and fine compression will also help.

Overall, at least try lowering the ISO, and using the flash brighter.
