High pitched noise

I just bought a barely used rca 52 inch rear projection d52w23 after it has been on a few minutes it starts to emit an extremely annoying high pitched noise.....I read a few posts that it might be the video input...after swithching those from component to s video to rca plugs it changes slightly and goes away when it is completely unplugged from the video but comes back when plugged back in by any video source have not tried hdmi yet please help

I have a 52 inch RCA Rear Projection TV as well. Whenever I turn on mine it makes the high pitched noise too. The first time I noticed it was no more than 6months ago. I haven't done anything to fix it except ask others about it for ideas. It goes away after a minute or two everytime and doesn't come back until its shut off for a while and restarted so I wasn't extremely worried at first. It does vary in volume and pitch and yesterday was worse than its been in some time. I am concerned with trying to fix it somehow because I'm not set to buying another big screen TV at this time. I've been told it might be to do with loose solder points on the high voltage flyback or something, nothing to do with video. Having issues now with adjusting picture to widescreen or letterbox or to fit screen properly too. I would love to know the fix for this so I can keep it for a while longer. Getting closer to Christmas and i have many others to worry about before myself. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

I have found a round black thing near the flyback that when touched stops the whine.... the number on the top of this item is 10899180.....it is round about the diameter of a dime or penny and sticks up from the board about 1 inch half is wrapped in wire

the component your are touching is probably the horizontal centering coil the higth pitched sound you are hearing is the flyback you may need to change it you will also want to change your horizontal output. that tv also has caps go bad in the power with the set unplugged check the electrolytic behind the heat sink toward the back put your finger on it se if it is swollen if so change it

Problem is in High voltage circuit and likely either the high voltage transformer or a connection right under or around it.

My rca 52 inch hdtv turns itself off after a few minutes

Sounds like the green tube shorting intermittantly. Have a qualified tech use a tube restorer to check for shorts, or the loss of the 300v line to the green tube.

Hi, There are usually 1 or 2 fans inside the TV's. Could be worn bearings, or fan blade interference. Sorry, without my electric ear working, I can only guess.
