Question about Toshiba e-STUDIO 16 Printer

Connection to printer via parallel eratic

On our network we have a PC that acts as a print server for the toshiba e-studio 16 via a parallel cable the pc is a generic dell running XP home. every so often the connection between the PC and the printer is lost (an error comes up on the screen saying the device is is not responding or not attached) usually the only way to fix it is to delete the printer from the printers section in the OS and re install the driver which can be time consuming and a pain in the *** any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. side note: the parallel is relatively new and of a good quality build

It appears from what you say, that the driver files are getting corrupted. Typically this may occur as the HDD or controller fails.. The print server may have begun to reach the end of it's useful life. You might consider replacing this computer with another one, especially if it runs 24/7, and has been doing so for several years.

This type of setup is very reliable, and failures usually relate to pending hardware failure.

Optionally, a printer specific internal or an external print server ( like the HP JetDirect EX ... which you can find used on eBay for under $50.00 ) connected directly to the network will provide a reliable alternative to the computer. It uses fewer resources, fewer components to fail, and is more "green".

I have an hp 1320 laser jet printer but it cant be recognized by all the computers in my office. i have tried to change both usb and parallel cables but nothing is happening . what could be the problem?...

Have you connected it via Ethernet and installed the software on your office's server? If not then you will have to set it up as a USB or parallel on one pc and then all the other computers on the network will have to print to the IP address on the network of the PC it is connected to and then set up each machine to access that printer.

Keep getting the error message "Printer not responding".

How are you connecting the printer to the computer? (USB, parallel, ethernet) Make sure there are no error messages/lights blinking and that the unit is on.

If you are using an USB cable, try a new cable. Also try a direct connection if you have a USB hub or print server in use. Make sure the USB ports are active (not disabled for power saving or security). Test the port with a known working device.

If you are using the parallel cable, make sure it is properly secured. Also try a new cable. Again try a direct connection instead of a print server.

If you are using an ethernet connection, again try a new cable. Check if your firewall is blocking communication with the printer. (Test this by temporarily turning off the firewall. If it starts working, make the printer a trusted part of the network. With some firewalls, you may need to unblock communication for both incoming and outgoing communication with the printer.)

I hope this helps.

Canon ir5000 wont print from computer

hi michelle,

try this, first isolate your machine to the server, if you have laptop install the driver and connect the printer to the laptop via parallel cable.( use new if possible so that we will not doubt the cable itself) if the ir5000 is printing normally it could be the network or the server has a problem hope this will help

Does your estudio 250 have the "print option" installed? Most newer Toshiba copiers have the parallel port on the machine, however it has to be enabled by adding a print kit or print option.

I have a new Compaq laptop running Vista home and an old samsung 4216f. I tried a parallel to usb and cannot get the printer to work. No parallel ports on laptop and no usb on printer. Any ideas?

If you have a home network, try a Print Server with parallel port. You will connect the printer to the print server via parallel, and the print server to a network hub/switch/router (any of the listed) via a network cable, and the computer to the hub/switch/router via network cable or wireless.

Cost should be around $20 - $60 depending on make/model.

NETWORK

Does your copier have a Network Interface Card ( NIC ) installed in the printer? If not, and if the copier has the Parallel port option installed, you can purchase an HP JetDirect EX network print server, and then connect it to the printer parallel port, and then into your ethernet network. This option is very effective, and a very "Green" solution vs using a computer as a print server for example, or the high cost of adding a Toshiba ethernet option if not already installed.
