Did you spill a liquid on the keyboard? Try clicking the question key repeatedly real fast you might have something that is sticky under it.

I would say maybe your keyboard is going bad or needs to be reseated, but most times when that happens it would be more than just the ? key, it would be some other keys around it.

Try booting in Safe Mode and see if the ? key works.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look different to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this is normal.
If the ? key works in safe mode then there might be a virus or infection that has it. Take the steps above to get into safe mode, but this time select the Safe Mode With Networking option (this will give you internet connectivity). When it boots up open up your internet browser and download and install MalwareBytes.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type: "Download cnet Malwarebytes" (without the quotes). Download and install malwarebytes from the sites download.cnet/malwarebytes. When the site opens up click on the Green Download button on the left. Do not click the Red Download button, that's junk. When it finishes installing the Gui Interface will open up with an offer to Accept a Trial Version or Decline. CLICK DECLINE you want the totally free version. Run a QUICK SCAN. As it scans, if it finds infections the number will be in red. When it finishes scanning, click SHOW RESULTS. A notepad text document will open up showing you the results. You can close the text document and go back to the Gui Interface where you will click REMOVE SELECTED RESULTS. The objects will already be selected for you. When it finishes removing the objects click ok and it will sometimes reboot your machine.

If the ? key still does not work your keyboard might be bad for that one key..Here is a work around. Download and install the Virtual Keyboard. Anytime you need the ? key just point and click on the virtual keyboard with your mouse pointer and it will appear.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type: "download.cnet.com" (without the quotes). Click the link to go to the site and look on the left side when the site opens up and you will see a gray area that says FIND SOFTWARE. In the white search box under Find Software type: "Virtual Keyboard" (without the quotes) and click the mirror to search. When the search results come back look for FREE VIRTUAL KEYBOARD. Download and Install it. It's totally FREE. Also uncheck anything that pops up other than the license agreement during the download and installation. You only want the Free Keyboard and not the other junk.

You can use it to solve your keyboard problem. Just open up whatever it is you want to type on such as the web address in an browser, a word document, etc., then open the Free Virtual Keyboard and it will sit on top of whatever you were doing. You can move it around so that it is not in your way also.

SOURCE: Fn key is broken

Go to http://www.laptopkey.com/ and order missing key. They have a video guide how to remove and reattach keys. The easiest way i think is to order a new keyboard from ebay for as little as 25$ like i did.

How do i turn on the scrolling on my acer laptop

To fix an unresponsive touchpad on your laptop, reactivate it by using the Function key on the keyboard and the Fn key.

This process is different for each computer manufacturer.
If unsure which Function key enables and disables the touchpad, try each one at a time and then
attempt to use the touchpad after each one.

A...Locate the "Fn" key of the laptop keyboard.
The "Fn" key has different colored text or the key is a different color.
B...Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.
The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.
C...Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key at the same time to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.
Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works. Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again

I lost my question mark -- what do I press to get it back

Press your FN key.
If you look at your Keyboard on a laptop you'll see that certain keys have more than 1 symbol on them.
The FN key brings these secondary symbols to life as live keys and pressing it again will restore original function to the keyboard.

Cursor frozen, fn and f7 nor any hotkeys don't unlock it or keypad

Hi,

You might have pressed fn and another key. Look to see if any keys have something that looks like a touchpad or a finger or a finger on a touchpad on them, and if restarting doesn't work, try pressing fn and that button

OR

look at the bottom left side of ur keys where the CTRL and WINDOWS Icon is......inbetween those buttons is another key that says " Fn "...if u have this key on ur acer laptop and ur touchpad is stuck or jumping around or just acting funny...here is how u fix it......hold down the "Fn" key and tap the F7 key ONE TIME ......do not tap more than once....just ONE TIME....and ur touchpad is fixed...if that does not do it......call ACER......

Acer aspire 3100 laptop

Hi Mikey,

Bottom row of keys, you will see on marked Fn. It is a specific color. Hold that and look at the top row of Keys. You should see one with a laptop screen, and a monitor on it. Tap the key once.
Each time you tap it, while holding the Fn (Function) key, it changes your optons. Once it will set your display to Laptop only, again will set your display to Monitor only, and again will set your display options to both. Play with the key combonation, and you may have to reboot with each tap.
Good luck.
