No Picture The TV was working fine the day before. It was on 20 hours straight. Now when I turn it on the green light comes on and I get perfect sound but no picture, just a completely black screen.

What do you mean the picture tube is blown? What exactly blows in a Picture Tube? Are you talking about a bad filament? All 3 CRT's at once?

Hi there,

Actually, rather than rush out buying and installing parts that you may or may not need, I would suggest calling one or two local TV repair centers to get an expert opinion and an estimate on what it will cost to get your television fixed. Without having the TV tighr in fron tof me, it's really hard to say exactly what's wrong with it. I could be a power supply, transformer, capacitor, or the picture tube. It could turn out to be none of these things given the possibility that perhaps the circuit board got hot ofter 20 hours and maybe a solder connections on a resistor or something came loose.

Most TV repair centers will diagnose your TV for about $20, and if you decide to have them do the work, they'll apply that $20 into the total cost of your invoice. Like I said though, to prevent coming across a shady repairman, I would definitely call around to at least 2 or 3 repair centers to get more than just one opinion. Hope this proves to be helpful and have a wonderful evening!

Have a look at the lamps inside the tv itself, they are red, green and blue, check to see if the are all working if they are not, check that the lamp board is getting power, and check for a fuse that has blown, if the test shows that there is power then you may have to replace the lamps, they just unscrew like standard light bulbs and are easy to replace

hope this helps

regards

I think you need to replace the transformer inside the tv .

It will cost you around $400 to replace it .

Hard reset will work but it is not permanent solution to your problem .

How old is your tv ?

The picture tube has blown, with these tv's they tend to blow out a few years after or when the tv has been left on for longer periods in shorter times, i suggest you replace the picture tube but sometimes its cheaper to replace the tv itself. replacing the pture tube will do the tirck.

Rear projection hdtv, most likely damaged tubes. Don't repair this by your self get a tv repair man to do it before you injure your self.

My Sony comes on then both sound and picture goes black.

After being on a little while, the screen goes black (no audio as well) for 20 to 30 seconds. Green light stays on. Then, picture comes back on and takes a couple of seconds to get up to full brightness. About 5 seconds or so after the video comes back, the audio returns.

Until this morning, has only happened a couple of times a day, now happening more often. About 3 times in last 20 minutes.

My TV pictures turns black afetr a few hours but I still can hear sound perfectly!!!

It sounds like your rptv lamp is going out. If this is an older DLP this is most likely the cause. You can get a replacement at www.laptopsforless.com part number BP96-00224J for $151. If the tv is still under warranty, I would have them do it, otherwise replace it yourself. If so here is a link to give you step by step instruction. Please give me a good rating. ;-)

Sounds like a cold solder joint, turn the main pcb over and see if you find any cracked solder or where the solder looks like it got hot.
