Hi,

Your describe concern could only indicate a faulty controller board. This would be directly behind the display/keypad panel on top. More specifically, a probable fused contact of the relay/switch. As it would seem that component level repair is not performed on this board, the entire controller assy has to be replaced.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

BUTTTTTTTT,

Before that Lets try to fix it..................

  1. Make sure the controls are set properly that the oven selector switch is set correctly and that the temperature switch is set to the desired temperature. Where applicable, make sure the oven timer is set to manual.

  2. Make sure the oven door is slightly ajar as per your owner's manual.

    1. If nothing else on the Range, Oven or Cooktop is working then:
    2. Check the circuit breaker or fuse
    3. Test for power

    1. Test the broiler element.

    2. Check the oven thermostat.

    3. Check selector switch.

    4. Check oven cycling relay.

REMEMBER YOU ARE WORKING WITH 220 VOLTS - USE EXTREME CAUTION!!!

That is a contact in the wiring or a faulty control knob.

Will the oven work without the broiler attached

You could use the oven without the broiler. It is customary that the oven will use the broil element to even out the heat in the oven for better baking but you could use if. it just may not bake evenly. There could be two things that is causing the broil element to stay energized. the control is not shutting down or there is a short to ground in the broil element. Have the broil element tested, it could just need replacing. If it is in the control that is a bigger problem.

    Broiler element doesn't work

Reseating the Element The broiler is heated using an electric element which should be clipped in to the top of the broiler enclosure. If this has come loose then it might not be making contact with the necessary terminals. Try to reseat the terminal but before doing so you must ensure that the electricity is turned off.
Testing the Element The element is what heats up and cooks the food in the broiler. Over time the heat can damage the broiler element. These elements are supported by stand-offs and if the element burns out or becomes damaged then this can be a common reason why the broiler isn't working.
The easiest way to test whether this is working is to turn the broiler on and look at the element. If it is working correctly then the element should be glowing red.
Another slightly more complicated test for the broiler element is to remove the element from the oven and disconnect it. Then use a multimeter to check the continuity of the element. Set the multi-meter to measure resistance and then put it either side of the element. The normal measurement should be between 20 and 40 ohms. If the element is infinitely resistant then this means it's broken and will need to be replaced.
Testing Oven Controls Another reason why the broiler will fail to work is because of problems with the oven controls. A thermostat is used to set the temperature of the broiler, and the oven selector controls are used to control the setting of the broiler.
Turn the oven controls on to see whether the broiler is working properly. If not the controls can be removed and tested using a multimeter. Check the outputs to ensure that the controls are working correctly.
These can also be replaced if required by fitting a replacement part designed specifically for your oven.

Lower heating element in oven does not work

so this unit is electric? does the broiler work? if the answer is yes , the broiler does work...more than likely you need a bake element. Do you have a multimeter? you can also check to see if you have 240 volts going to the element when you turn it on if you have voltage your problem is 100 percent a bake element that has gone bad.

    Broiler doesn't turn on completely

The top element should come on when Broiler is selected. If both ovens have a broiler mode, then look for something failed in the circuit for the broiler heating elements (it's unlikely both broiler elements would fail together.). If there is only 1 oven with a broiler, look for a failed broiler element.

My oven has increased only 65 degrees in almost an hour....what does it mean when it heats up, but SLOWLEY??

The broiler element on the top of the oven comes on during the preheat cycle to speed things up and then only the lower element keeps the temperature steady. One of those elements is bad, probably the broiler. Try using the broiler and see if it works. If not, you need to disconnect the elements from the oven and check them with an ohm meter. If gthe elements check out ok, then it must be the temperature sensor/thermostat.

Maytag electric oven - MER5770AAQ. lower heating element not work

Hi, Unplug the oven and remove the element to test it. Check the element and see if there is continuity. If the element is open, replace it. It can be bad even tho it doesn't appear bad.

    I hope this helps you.
