1 Answer

Please Help! We have a 52' RCA Rear-Projection model P52939 TV. The set quit coming on. When we tried to unplug it and plug it back in but sparks flew out of the plug and it began making a chirping sound with no picture. Everytime we try to turn it on again it only maked the chirping noise.

Re: Please Help!

A chirping sound from a TV set is the switch mode power supply trying to start up, but gets shut down because of a major short inside the set or in one of the circuits.. Most likly in this set, the horizontal output transistor is shorted because of a defective flyback transformer. Thats whats the common problem is with this set. A repair like this, if this is the only parts that are bad, will run you about 300 to 400 bucks or so. In some cases, not many but a few times, I have seen poor solder connections on L401 cause the horizontal output transistor to go bad. There are no user replacable parts inside this set, so please play it safe and seek out a pro to assist you in this repair. Good luck PS Please do not forget to rate this thread.

I unpluged the TV to move it and it will not turn on now. Is the a reset button?

Sometimes the power cords come away from the back of the TV . Mack sure you snug it up or it could be that new out let. Have it tested with a hair dryer or something.

Tv keeps changing channels and wont stop

What you likely have is a bad (defective) button on the front keyboard of the set.

What I would do is unplug set, remove back cover and at the top of the three large black lens on a tiny circuit board locate the plug with wires that goes to the front of the set and its keyboard.

Unplug it so the keyboard up front is out of the loop. The set will still be able to be operated with the remote as the remote receiver is on that same tiny circuit board.

Let me know what you find, I am here to help

I have a rca p52939 that won't turn on.

Failure of the HV splitter was a very common problem when I was doing these big screens on the road. The set won't come on if the splitter shorts. We used to test if that was the cause by pulling the HV input lead out of the splitter (leaving it still inside the plastic cup so it wouldn't arc anywhere) and turning the set on. Most often the set would fire right up (without picture of course).

I believe the RCA part number for the splitter is 205064, and it's available from a number of sources. I'm not home right now so I can't check. If I have the number wrong I'll post a follow-up comment.
