Re: helpp! exceeded the power limits on its hub port?

A simple solution is buy a powered usb hub ( which has an adapter which plugs into the mains) that should solve your problem

Shut down the computer, unplug the power cable and wait 10 seconds. Connect the power cable and start the computer. That would reset the power on the hub port.

Power surge on hub port. a usb devise has exceeded the power limit of its hubport

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( ).

If you insist on using the USB connection, do not go through a hub. You can't get enough juice through a hub to download pictures. Connect the camera directly to a USB port.

How can I solve this? A USB device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port?

Disconnect all the other USB devices (except for the mouse and keyboard) and try again.

If you get the same message again, try using a different USB ports until the device can be used without getting the message.

If you aren't able to use the device without the message, you should buy a powered USB hub. A powered USB hub has a power supply that needs to be plugged into an outlet, and it will provide the power needed by the device. The power for the device will no longer need to be supplied by the computer - so you won't have a message - nor run the risk of damaging the port.

Select a powered USB hub that has the largest value or watts or amps. More is better.

Downloading images

Possibly a short in the camera, cable, or the port itself. Recommend trying another port. If that doesn't help, then please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:
