I have precisely the same problem described above, and I googled the problem and was directed to this site for a solution. I have the Panasonic Lumix DMC LZ1 digital camera.

I tried that - didn't work. I even tried reinstalling the usb ports - didn't work. I heard the one about disabling the balloon message, but I also heard that all that happens is they run in the background and slow the machine down. No One seems to know WHY its happening, though - and that's a worry....

I have the same problem. I have a canon power shot camera that I have been using with the same ports for 3 years and all of a sudden I starting getting this message
    Power Surge on Hub Port"

A USB device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port.
I have tried all of the suggestion with no luck as of yet.
I have tried plugging it into other computers and I get the same message on the other computers.
All computers was working fine until 3 days ago now none will accept the camera.
    Any more suggestion out there?
Thank's in advance for any help

A simple solution is buy a powered usb hub ( which has an adapter which plugs into the mains) that should solve your problem

Shut down the computer, unplug the power cable and wait 10 seconds. Connect the power cable and start the computer. That would reset the power on the hub port.

Windows display this message when a USB device is short-circuited. Try another USB cord or connect the usb to the port at the back of your pc. If it does not help then the problem resides in the printer. I will not suggest to dismantle your printer as there are no user serviceable parts inside.

Hp pavilion dv4000 usb port can't use

This error occures when a USB device draws more power than the USB port can supply.
To fix this problem, purchase a powered USB hub. Power up the hub and connect it to the laptop's USB port and then plug the USB device into the powered USB hub.

Power Surge on Hub Port

Some USB devices draw excessive power from the USB port, especially USB scanners. When this happens you need a powered USB hub, connect this to your computer's USB port and connect the USB device into the powered USB hub, you should not have any further error power surge problems.

Power sugre with m240

Hi there. This message would indicate any one of the following: 1. You have a lot of USB devices plugged in to your computer, and the maximum power supply for the USB ports has been exceeded by plugging this player to your computer. It would be best if you unplugged 1 or 2 of the USB devices connected for the time being. 2. You are plugging the player on your front USB port, and may need to plug it in the rear USB port to acquire ample power supply (front USB ports do not get as much power as the rear USB port -- sad but true) 3. You are using a laptop and may need to try another USB port on that computer. Purchasing a self-powered USB hub would be ideal as it gets its power supply directly from the wall electrical socket.

Power surge on hub port error msg

The printer is the problem, obviously but, also try using a different USB cable to see if that doesn't help! When plugging up th cable, look for anything out of the ordinary! If changing the USB cable doesn't resolve the situation then it could be something shorted out in your printer and you need to take it to a service shop for repair! regards, babb
