If the damage is shallow, you can scrub off the top layer with Bar Keeper's Friend and damp sponge. (Don't worry - it only takes off a micro-layer). Rinse and dry. If the damage is gone, wipe with mineral oil. If it's still there, I would try a few more times before giving up.

Good luck!

Dilute oxalic acid and scrub gently or firmer till you are comfortable with matching the grain. Use a scotchbrite sponge pad- break it in on your stainless steel sink practicing going with the grain. Water rinse and rub will nutralize acid.

Finish and maintain with DeBruce Polish- THIS STUFF IS THE BEST, and once the whole unit is completely cleaned all you will every have to do is touch up the spotting areas, reclean whole unit yearly or as ofton as you like. We find DeBruce Polish online at debrucepolish.com.

Buy a stainless cleaner nd polish it should remove the marks, dont forget to polish in the same diarection with the grain of the steel

if you use any scotchbrite on the fridge to clean out the mark you will end up having to do the whole front of the fridge as nothing can blend in a factory sheen/grain finish.ive been welding and polishing st/st for 14 years

SOURCE: discolorations/stains on stainless steel refrigerator surface

Tried lots of suggestions to no avail. Tried a USED, dried out Scotch Brite Cook Top pad on the scrubber handle with Heavy Duty Fantastick sprayed on the pad. Scrubbed the drip marks at the bottom and wiped away to see if it was "scratching" or marri8ng the finish. Nope, but IT WAS taking the water marks off. So I did a bit more and checked again. Working great with no problems for the finish. Cleaned the whole watermark area. Rinsed of with wet cloth. Let it dry and then used my usual stainless cleaner, buffed to shine and walked away to post this. :> My refrig is an Aman too but I read other problem sites and it is common with stainless steel refrigs

yes replace the seal, this type of spotting that forms as rust color occurs on "ferritic" stainless steel. Simply put there exists iron in the alloy and the surface needs to be pacified. Use DeBruce Polish to correct the problem. Non-toxic and odor-less containing NO ACID, this TRUE MULTI-SURFACE CLEANER is the best product for stainless steel AND glass/ceramic cook tops. If my Kitchen Aid KSF26C6XYY00 door is in fact made of stainless steel, why do fridge magnets stick to it? Ohter people I know that have stainless steel fridges say that the magnets do not stick to t

Stainless steel is a term for a family of high chromium steels, some of which do in fact stain, although they do not rust as ordinary steel does.

The more expensive 'austenitic' stainless is non-magnetic, but harder to work into product shapes. 'Martensitic' stainless is a little more prone to staining and corrosion, but easier to work with, and is magnetic. Then 'ferritic' stainless is even cheaper, but less corrosion proof, and is also magnetic.

So yes, many stainless steels are magnetic, and if the manufacturer has not used the very most corrosion proof but expensive grade, then you will see it in that way. I would not see much reason for a fridge door to be made from austenitic stainless.

How to clean maytag stainless steel finish on appliances

HOW TO CLEAN MAYTAG STAINLESS STEEL REFRIGERATOR:

Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners such as window sprays, scouring cleansers, flammable fluids, cleaning waxes, concentrated detergents, bleaches or cleansers containing petroleum products on plastic parts, interior and door liners, or gaskets. Do not use paper towels, scouring pads, or other harsh cleaning tools.

How do I clean and care my stainless steel surfaces such as refrigerator or any other stainless steel made appliance?

NOTE: Just because a cleaner is a liquid does not mean that it is nonabrasive. Many liquid cleaners designed to be gentle on tile and smooth surfaces still damage stainless steel.

Zap damage to stainless steel

You should try a citrus based stainless steel cleaning agent, this should take off the stain. Otherwise you can do a test on a concealed spot, stain it with Zap and then lightly brush over in straight lines with medium sandpaper in same direction as original. But try it on a concealed area first.
