Question about Dell XPS M1710, Intel Core 2 Duo T2600 2.0 GHZ, 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM, 100 GB HD, DVDRW, 17" WUXGA TFT LCD... PC Notebook
IT'S A DELL LAPTOP XPS SO THERE IS NO CD TRAY
With the slot load models the whole system needs to be disassembled to retrieve a stuck disc. Are you absolutely sure there is a disc in the drive? If so, it needs serviced and may need the drive replaced.

I had the same issue with my Dell XPS 15z, after looking every where to get instruction to get the CD out. I decided to call Dell Tech Support and it did work.
1. Turn off the laptop
2. Turn on the laptop and press F2 several times until the setup menu come up
3. Then press the eject botton from the keybord, the Cd should come up.
