The set was left on for several hours and turned off by itself. Unit will turn on for a few seconds and then turns back off. Pressed the input and menu buttons and retrieved a code 22. I have tried to research this code but I am coming up empty handed. Can anybody point me in a direction?
I would also like to find a service manual for the set(either hard copy or download), can anybody suggest a place to purchase one.

Hi, Unplug the unit from the outlet for at least 1 hour and check if the symptoms persists. If yes, check if the unit can give an error code by following the steps below. - Power on the unit and wait until the initialization takes place. - Press the front panel "Input" and "Menu" buttons at the same time and hold it for 5 seconds, it will activate the error code mode. LED flashes a two digit error code. Example, if the error code is "22" the LED will flashes two times pause and then flashes two times and will repeat the error code for 5 times. "12" means no error has occured. Please let me know what will be the result to assist you further. Regards,firstname.lastname@example.org
error code 22 is a short protect circuit. this means the tv has found a
problem in the tv and will not let it turn on till fixed. this could
be several different circuits in the tv that is causing this. we need
to test some parts to see what this is. the most common is a shorted
convergence circuit. a repair on this would range around 400.00. You should check using a multimeter and also you should be good at soldering
PS:I strongly advice if you don't have experience in electronics then better leave this job to a tech
This set was made around 2001 and should have the self check feature. Unplug set and then plug back in and try to turn set on----if green power light comes on for a few seconds and goes off--ON the front of the set press and hold menu and input buttons together for several seconds and then release--------------power light should blink a two digit error code and repeat it several times.
1 blinks, 2 blinks a pause and then repeats(1,2 is no error found.)
4 times blinking means Fan stopped, power is not supplied on Fan 1, Fan 2 Fan 3 and at Fan 4. Or Fan connector is not attached securely. Cleaning these fans by using a vacuum cleaner can also solve your problem. Sometimes these fans are clogged by dust.
This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source)
1. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR OPEN FUSES F9A04 PART # 283P044020 AND F9A05 PART # 283P043090 ON THE +24 AND -24 VOLT LINES. IF THE FUSES ARE OPEN THE CONVERGENCE OUTPUT CIRCUIT WOULD BE SUSPECT. I hope this helped.
Try pressing in both the menu and device/input buttons in together on the front of the set and hold for 5 seconds to see if the led will blink a two digit error code such as 2 blinks then a pause then two more blinks followed by a pause which would indicate a 22 error. Then let me know what the blink code was if any.
It's probably a cracked solder joint in the power supply / horizonal drive stages. As the unit heats up the joint is seperating and breaking connection. It could also be a component failing when it gets hot. Usually the voltage regulator or Horizonal Output Transistor (both mount to heat sinks).
If you know how to solder and want to tinker, unplug the set for a couple days (to let the power capacitors discharge) and resolder and crystalized it cracked joints on the board(s) where the power stages, and flyback transformer are located.
If you decide to operate the set with the back off, please be careful. The high voltage on a TV can be 30,000+ volts.
