The oven ignitor has to consume 3.2 to 3.6 amps in order for the oven valve to open. The valve is a bi-metal valve; which means the proper amount of current must be drawn through the valve to warp the bi-metal and allow gas flow. Oven ignitors will glow bright but only pull around 2.8 amps, not enough to open the valve. In most cases this is the scenario. The only way to determine which is bad(ignitor or valve) is to check the amp draw of the ignitor using a clamp on meter. If the ignitor is flat in appearance it must pull 3.2 to 3.6 amps, if the ignitor is round it must pull 2.5 amps. Being a kenmore stove it could be built by frigidaire or many others for that matter, the model # indicates this, so be sure to check the amp draw if possible.I have seen many Frigidaire oven valves bad. However, 9 times out of 10 the ignitor is bad. If your model begins with 790. its a frigidaire, 362. its a roper/ge, 665. its a whirlpool built, 911. its a roper, etc. hope this helps...

What should the heating element look like after I've cleaned the buildup? I am doing this for the first time in a few months and the buildup is thick.

The heating element casing on which the buildup grows is made of an aluminum alloy that is originally black anodized which looks like plastic, but you should take care to not scratch the protective black anodize because over time it will corrode and makes a rough finish. It is not important to remove all the scale on the eating element, but only what falls off. You may let the element soak into vinegar or "CLR" cleaner from within the humidifier underneath pan such that would not need to scrub as it will dissolve and fall off. You have to rinse the pan and the eating element after soaking. If the layer of scale left is a thin that is OK, the water will go through as it is porous so the humidifier will continue to work normally. Keep in mind that the eating element is designed with a thermal protection built-in such that if the layer of scale is too thick to transfer the heat into the water, it will shut down by itself until it has cooled down enough.

Heater Element for Hunter Niteglo Humidifier is not working

Heating elements are pretty reliable. They usually have a thermal fuse or thermostat that will open before ruining the element. If your handy with a multimeter, you can check the continuity of the parts and the element itself.

Won't work

Remove the cover and check the heating element. These can easily become caked with hard water deposits, which prevent the water from reaching the element. If the element is white, break off the hard white shell, and try again.

After the humidifier runs for a few minutes it just shuts off.

You might need to clean around the heating element...
we have very hard water and calcium builds up on and around the heating element and all the surrounding parts. I take it apart and pour CPR around the element and scrub with a brush .. once you get it clean it should stay running.

Does it work when the heat pump is heating and the gas furnace is on standby? The unit is less than a year old.

No one can answer this question other than the installer or someone that is there and can inspect the unit. It has to do with the way the installer wired it when they installed it.
If I had to guess, I would say that they wired it to only work with the gas heat due to gas heat dries the air out. Sorry I can't help any more than that.

My Clairion SD1015 just stopped working. It's been working fine for 1 1/2 years.

the process this unit uses to evaporate water (boil water) leaves behind any minerals from the water . this builds up on the heating element and requires regular cleaning .. you can soak it in white vinegar to help remove the scale .. here is a URL that gives specific instructions on how to do that ...
http://www.clairion.com/usermanuals/DD_SD_eng.pdf
if there is enough buildup, the heating element gets too hot ... it may trip a thermal fuse .. if this happens then its likely that the machine will appear to have no power at all ... the thermal fuse is located inside the machine and is soldered or crimped in .. it requires a person with technical expertise to change that .. the heating elements go bad but not often ..if your unit lights up but simply doesnt give vapor output then it may be overheating inside due to buildup on the heater ... it might take a couple of days to get all that cleaned off the heater ... there are two sensors that detect that the machine is assembled correctly .. if its not then it will refuse to operate ... also one of the sensors could be bad ..

Humidifier does not reset

According to Holmes, one of the causes of the Reset light staying on is scale buildup on the heating element.

Remove Scale: Allow to cool before maintenance.
1. Repeat steps 1-5 in the Daily Maintenance section.
2. Clean the base by partially filling the base with one
8-oz cup of undiluted white vinegar. Let solution stand
20 minutes, cleaning all interior surfaces with a soft
brush. Dampen a cloth with undiluted white vinegar
and wipe out entire base to remove scale.
3. Rinse with clean warm water to remove scale and the
white vinegar solution before beginning to disinfect
the tank.
4. Wipe the heating element clean with a soft cloth after
it has had chance to cool.

If the scale has really built up it might take longer than 20 mins for the vinegar to get rid of it and you might need to refresh with new vinegar.

No steam comes out

I just took mine apart and cleaned the scale off the heating elements. Filled to the level with hot water and it was steaming good in about 2 mins.
