Windows is booting to recovery partition How do I stop it?

I turn on the computer and it boots to the recovery partition and tries to reinstall windows. Not sure how it happened but I need it to stop before it erases my hard drive. How do I stop this? I tried safe mode but now it will not let me go into safe mode.

You cannot stop this now that the process has started, take the hard drive out, connect it to another PC as a "slave" drive to recover any data you need to back up, reconnect it to your pc and proceed with the recovery, you should have a choice of a "non destructive recovery" which means any data stored in "my documents" should be safe, or a full recovery, meaning it formats the whole drive and re-installs the operating system to factory settings (wipes all data)

hope this helps

Ive lost a recovery disk and now i cant reinstall,is there any way i can download off the net and make new recovery disks?

Two seperate issues. You can order new disks on ebay for example but if your product key is unreadable you need to purchase a new key.

Want to reset to factory... i have an hp pavilion 7920

Most manufacturer's reserve a small partition on the stock hard drive for returning the PC to factory state. When booting the PC, an option should show "repair your computer" or something along those lines. Try pushing either F12 or F8 when booting to bring up this menu.

How do i reboot or recover my nb505 toshiba netbook

Reinstall Windows from a Disk

1 Turn on your Toshiba . Insert your recovery disk or the original Windows operating system DVD

into the 's CD/DVD drive. Turn off the computer.

2 Turn on the Toshiba . In the first few seconds while it is starting up, press and hold the F12 key on your keyboard to access the Boot Menu. (Note: Some Toshiba models may tell you to press "C" to boot

from the CD-ROM). The screen will display boot for this boot up session only.

3 Use the arrow keys to navigate. Select the CD-ROM/DVD drive to highlight it. Press "Enter." Be aware that this setting is for this session only; it is not a permanent change.

4 Allow the computer to start up. Follow the onscreen instructions for reinstalling the operating system from the disk.

Reinstall from a Recovery Partition

1 Boot up the Toshiba . In the first few seconds while it is starting up, press and hold the F8 key. This will begin the "Advanced Boot Options" menu.

2 Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate the menu. Move the keys to select "Repair Your Computer." Press "Enter."

3 Select your language and keyboard; click "Next."

4 Select your Windows user name from the drop-down menu. Enter your password if required. Click "OK." This will begin the "System Recovery Options" menu.

5 Select the Toshiba Recovery Wizard and follow the onscreen instructions. The Toshiba Recovery Wizard will delete all existing data on the hard drive and reinstall Windows.

Hope this helps!

I have an inspiron 15, 64bit,win7. from last couple of days its giving some starting trouble when i turn it on the starting windows screen appears n nothing happens and when i restart using power button it...

this means that you have a faulty operation system and you need to repair or reinstall ...for that you need the disk with the operation system or the recovery disk that already contain it ..
Check if you have a recovery partition ..by pressing F8 on start to display the boot menu (it might be a different function key ..try one by one since the F6 ..up ) ..and when it displays the boot menu ..and if it shows recovery partition ..choose it ..and hit enter ..This way it will boot from it ..and restore the operation system ..
If in the boot menu there is no recovery partition ..than you need a disk with windows 7 and reinstall the computer ..
After that if you do not have the drivers or recovery drivers disk ..you have to go on line on the support site for Dell and choose downloads..and your model and windows7 and download all drivers and install them again ...
Good Luck !@

To create a recovery partition in harddisk

Unfortunately the Recovery partition could not be reacreated manually. But you can recover it by using the Y410 Recovery Disc but that means reinstalling everything and youll end up with windows vista again. You can reinstall XP but do not delete the partition that usually has 10-15GB of space because that is the hidden partition for the recovery. You can call 18774536686. If your computer is out of warranty, it would only cost you 59$ for the recovery disc

Unmountable boot volume

hi,

-this can be a hardware problem or a software problem
-run diagnostics first on the computer
-turn off computer; while the computer is off, press and hold the "Fn" key then press power at the same time to initialize the test
-if you find error message like 0142 - this is a hard drive failure; contact your manufacturer for replacing your hard drive
-if no error is found, it is a corrupted Windows; you need to reinstall Windows, ensure you consult local technician to back-up files before installation.

cheers!

How to get to recovery partition when booting up HP Pavillion MX

The same problem happened to me today on my hp Pavillion a1600n.
Try pressing the F10 key as the computer is powering on. This may allow the computer to access the recovery partition on the hard disk. If you get that far, then you can restore the user partition from the recovery partition. If it is like the a1600n, then you can do a restore of all the content and either leave your own data files intact, or, have it reformat the user partition and then you WILL have to restore all the data files. In either case, you will likely need to reinstall any applications that were added AFTER you got the PC. (Or, in my case, some apps were still kinda working...).

If F10 does not work, you may be able to create a PC Recovery Tools CD from a different hp XP machine, and boot that CD. During part of that boot up process you may get the opportunity to run the Recovery program.

Hope that helps!

Will not complete boot sequeance

Several possibilities. 1. Your windows installation is corrupted. You will need to use your recovery CDs or the recovery partition to reinstall windows. 2. Hard drive failure causeing windows corruption. 3. Bad memory. 4. Bad motherboard. Chances are, it is one of the first two. When you first turn on the computer, press repeatedly the F10 key until the laptop boots into recovery mode. It should automatically go to a place where you can do a soft recovery of the hard drive or, that is to say, a non destructive recovery, only removing the windows files and reinstalling the original windows files. This leaves your data intact. After the operation and if it is a success, you may have to reinstall some software programs again if they don't work but your data will remain in tact. If that doesn't work, do it again only when the recovery screen comes up, press the advanced button which will take you to a complete system recovery where it will reformat your hard drive and reinstall your laptop to its factory preset, just like it was the day you bought it. If neither of those work, you need to get a program that will run a scan on your hard drive to check it for errors but, normally, the first solution will do just fine for you.
