Question about HP Compaq Presario SR1500NX (PX786AA) PC Desktop
I turn on the computer and it boots to the recovery partition and tries to reinstall windows. Not sure how it happened but I need it to stop before it erases my hard drive. How do I stop this? I tried safe mode but now it will not let me go into safe mode.
Check your CD-rom for any Installation CD in there, normarlly you go to bios to set which drive to boot from,. Ok when restart, press delete to go into bios. choose boot from HDD.

You cannot stop this now that the process has started, take the hard drive out, connect it to another PC as a "slave" drive to recover any data you need to back up, reconnect it to your pc and proceed with the recovery, you should have a choice of a "non destructive recovery" which means any data stored in "my documents" should be safe, or a full recovery, meaning it formats the whole drive and re-installs the operating system to factory settings (wipes all data)
hope this helps
