Well,
PPPoE, is nothing but Point to Point over Ethernet.. which is your normal windows OS connectiod and the bridged mode is the mode in which the routers are set. In this mode, the router will authenticate with the uid and the passwrod, and not the modem. got it??
was i helpful?

Access to bridge mode

What do you want to know? How to put it into bridge mode or how to get it out of bridge mode?

It depends on what driver you install for this device. The WAN driver gives you PPPoE/A and the LAN driver gives you bridged mode, Dlink appear to have a tool for removing drivers which I see as a very bad sign.

This is a pretty old device - the drivers I'm seeing go back to Windows 98 and Mac OS9...

Got Motorola SB5101u cable modem get ip address and works with xp/pro, but can't get vista computer to get IP address even though have configured for automatic ip / dns. Tried everything I could think of

Obviously make sure its set to automatic IP/dns. If thats not working you need to do this

Click on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on command prompt and hit run as administrator.

In Dos prompts type these commands in EXACTLY AS WRITTEN.

netsh i i r r
netsh firewall reset
netsh winsock reset

Also, if you have anti virus like norton or trend micro or mcafee or webroot, you *NEED* to disable their firewalls and possible the entire program.

Some isp's for some reason make it impossible for Vista machines to pull ip addresses dynamically because of a flaw in windows vista. If this continues, i would contact your ISP and request a motorola surfboard 900 series modem, or a cable modem that is in route mode (NOT bridged, as bridged modems will pull a public ip address)

Bought a Belkin router model # f5d8326 4 v2 was told this worked for cable modems not working yet

Make sure the modem is configured properly so it would detect the router. Most of the time, modems now has DCHP capability, meaning it has the ability to hold the username and password you ISP has provided you. The most effective way of making modems work with routers is to bridge the modem first before connecting the router.

Bridging the modem is done by opening the interface of the modem. To pull up the interface of the modem, type the default gateway of the modem in the address bar of your browser(intenet explorer)

Look for the "connection configuration" button and choose "bridge ethernet" as the connection type.

Once the modem is bridged, connect the router to the modem, then configure the router to set the connection type to pppoe. Once done, type your username and pw your ISP have provided the save the settings. This should cpnnect you online..

What type of modem do I need?

bridge modem The 2100 modem is a bridge modem only, it doesn't do either NAT or PPPoE. Don't worry what that means, just that it's good news. It is already a dumb plain pass-through, so you won't have to dumb it down so that it won't conflict with the router's functions. I am also going to make a wild guess here that you are in a part of the Verizon network that was GTE before it was bought by Verizon, and are not using PPPoE, but rather DHCP. If you were in an area that was BellAtlantic before Verizon that means you are on PPPoE and you have had your Verizon DSL for 3 or 4 years or longer (about then they started using the 2200 modem for PPPoE customers). Configure your Windows XP PPPoE client as follows: 1) Go to Start >Control Panel >Network and Internet Connections. 2) Select Network Connections under the Pick a Control Panel icon. 3) Click Create a new connection under Network tasks. 4) Enter your area code in the location information (if asked), and click OK twice. 5) Click Next when the "Welcome to the new connection wizard" window displays. 6) Select Connect to the Internet and click Next. 7) Select Set up my connection manually and click Next. 8) Select Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password and click Next. 9) Type "DSL Modem? ( you can use your ISP Name here) for the ISP name, and click Next. 10) Enter your BellSouth username followed by "@ISP NAME (if required by your ISP)" and password. Confirm your password, and click Next. 11) Click Add shortcut to this connection to my desktop and the DSL Modem icon will be added to your desktop. Click Finish. 12) Click the DSL Modem icon to begin surfing. -- Best of luck

Reseting "Bridge mode" in RCA DCM 305R cabel modem

you can't set teh modem to bridge mode, however, you can set the router to bridge.
The linksys should have bridge mode configuration in the uer guide.

connected the 2 router together
configure the IP address of the liksys to be inthe same subnet as the moem, but out of the range of the DHCP of the modem. ie. DHCP address 192.168.0.2 through 192.169.0.100, the linksys should have the IP address as 192.168.0.200
disable the DHCP on the linksys
setup the wirless just the way you would if ti was the modem.
connect from the modem LAN port to the LAN port on thelinksys. leave the WAN port open.

Get no connection useing 6100 modem connected to wireless B router

Hi starman re westell 6100.

Hi i hope you have find solution with your issue ifnot let me walk you through on how to get it up and working.

First , you need to connect your modem directly to your computer. We need to access its Graphic Unit Interface by opening your browser and type onyour address bar its default gateway.

The def. gateway can be 192.168.1.1 or depending what ISP youre connected to . For ATT broadband its 192.168.1.254 / verizon broadband is 192.168.1.1..  { onyour address bar : type in 192.168.1.1 and hit Enter.

to check def gateway : you can go to start > run > cmd then enter > on DOS command type in ipconfig /all  then HIT enter > itl provide you your network list > your default gateway is your westell modem or if your linksys is connected than it should be you linksys.

Itl route you to your westell page. Try to go to  Broadband and choose connection or configure connection.button. Look for configure and by default you will see its in PPPoE> change it to bridged ethernet and save.

By enabling bridge to your modem w/c is westell youl have a chance to configure you linksys to PPPoE.

Connect you westell to your linksys and on your computer try to check your default gateway as seen above. By default linksys can be access by typing in 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1. Itl prompt you for UN and PW: by default your Username is : Blank and Password should be admin. { blank = dont type anything}

On your linksys SETUP page > by default it is set to DHCP or obtain IP address automatically. Pls change it to PPPoE and type in your UN and PW : username@isp { your ISP name}. and hit save settings or save.

Restart your linksys and try to browse to check fore connection.

========================
For all types of modem such as westell : you need to set it to bridge mode first foryou wireless router to work ie linksys. Set linksys to PPPoE .. that should work .

For more detailed steps or questions re: this issue pls dont hestiate contact me. Best wishes.

Pls enable you Wireless Encryption for your home network security.

Ciao .

Bridge RCA Thomson DCM315R

Hi,

Usually cable providers provide public ip directly to your company ( already bridged ). so no need to configure your modem to bridge.
- Connect the computer directly to the modem and if possible, let me know the ip address of your PC, So we can find the modem already bridged.
- If its already bridged, then Open the ports on your Router ( port number : 3389 for TCP ) or else you may try DMZ Host on your router to check whether it works.

Note:
DMZ ( Demilitarize Zone ) host which opens all ports on your network and shows ur computer to the outside Network which is not really secured one. but you can try it for testing purpose whether it let you to use remote desktop.

Hope this will help you
