hey after searching and searching for answers i stumble upon this , it's interesting because i have this exact problem. I connect to the internet using a satellite connection and it automatically assigns an ip by DHCP. quite often i find myself disconnected and when i check the connection properties it displays as if it is still connected and such but it says incorrect ip address. I cannot figure out for the life of me what is the problem , usually 1 or 2 reboots will correct this but it happens so frequently it is very annoying. My connection on another computer is strong and steady , that one being hardwired ,so i know it is not a problem with my provider. I tried the ipconfig at prompt and the correct gateway shows so this did not help me , if anyone has any suggestions please help me get a clue 8)

Don't worry about that.. these are some internal tests run by the modem.... which are sometimes inappropriate.... as long as you are conected dont worry about them... right. happy surfing...

I bought this modem to replace the one I rent from Comcast, and want to connect it to my wireless router. The "Quick Guide" gives directions, but only refers to PC installation, and I have a...

first you need to make sure that the new modem is provisioned (added to your account from comcast). you can do this by connecting your router to the coax cable and plugging it in (like the old modem was) then call comcast and ask them to provision the new modem (they will want you to return the old modem a local office to avoid rental fees on it). once the modem is provisioned.
1. unplug the power to the modem and router2. connect the router and modem the way you had it with your old modem (Ethernet/cat5 connects from port on modem to interent/WAN port on router)3. pug both router and modem back in
all should work now as long as there are no funky (meaning non-default) settings on your router. so, long answer to say, "no, there should be no special settings that are different for your mac"

Modem drops connection. Must disconnect and reconnect to restore

There are plenty of aftermarket Cable Modems for sale at most major retailers (Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc..)

I would go and buy a decent one of these and try it out to really test to see if the modem is indeed the issue here. If the new one works and doesn't drop the connection anymore then problem solved. If however the new one does do the same thing I would check for proper venting area (make sure you don't have anything on top of or burying your modem) first. If that's fine then it could possibly be issues with your actual line and in that case you'll need to harass the cable company until they actually send someone to test your lines.

IHow to install my 2Wire modem without the the installation CD

hi,
it doest matter if you have the disk or not. Access the command prompt window, type in "ipconfig" press enter. Make a note of the default gateway. type the same set of no.s in the address bar of the interent explorer, you will acess the modem's Graphical User Interface. If it asks you to enter the user name and password type in user: admin in password: admin or leave it blank.

Try to enter the uid and the password from ISP, you should be connected.

Unable to connect to internet

well !! according to me you've got a programming problem in your modem due to electricity fluctuation so , to solve this check if u hv a user manual of your modem ... if u have then its really good...

u will find a re-programming isp code ...

now to solve this first switch your modem on then go to any browser and type in the isp code there which is somewhat like " 192.168.1.1 " etc.

type that in the address bar and click enter ..
find the reboot option in the menu and click it..
your modem will reboot and then your internet will start working again !!

now just connect to internet via your default connection ....
your problem is solved....

New computer running slow

if you are using dial up, you shud not have a modem.. modem is just for DSL connection
if you have a modem probably you are using a DSL connection

DEFINITION:
dial up - connection using a phone line with internet connection; cannot use fone while on internet

DSL/modem- connection using a modem plugged in with computer and fone line; able to use fone even when on internet.

2wire modem not broadcasting wireless signal

are the lights on the modem detecting any connection? is your line still programmed for broadband? if your modem is connected at the phone exchange and the connection is at your house and all and none of your computers can connect to the net, not even the primary computer and you have called your technical team for broadband (can be company policy sometimes to call them) you may need a replacement modem. Tech support should do a ping and other tech things to try to get you connected. you may have a faulty modem which if it is new then you should be entitled to a warranty replacement. if it is a simple setting on your computer they should be able to resolve this, i know that when vista first came out there were a lot of support issues with bband providers being able to support the users.

Motorola SB5101

ya u should have a router instead of a modem because modem provide only one ip address>and there is no DHCP server in the switch or hub>so buy one router which has 4 ether net port and connect it directly to the modem and connect ur two pc's behind the router then both will get a seperate ip address from the router both will go online
the connection is
modem-->ether net cable to the inter net port on the router-->and two ether net cable from both pc's to the 1 and 2 ether net jack on the router reboot all the devices>and modem+router+pc's then it will work>rate me solved if its helps thx

Westell 6100 problems

we had the same issue. Here is how we fixed it. I had the xbox 360 plugged directly into the westell 6100 modem via ethernet cable. the mtu test failed everytime. I was extremely frustrated and called microsoft and verizon (dsl) about 10 times each and they kept giving me the wrong solution. (get a new modem, get a new server, pay us money and we'll figure it out etc...) Here is what a man at microsoft told me to do and finally it worked. Power cycle your equipment (unplug modem and xbox 360 for 30 sec.) then, plug in modem first and wait until all lights are back on. Then plug in xbox and run test. In my case mtu failed again. I was then instructed to go to my dashboard and restore xbox to factory default which I did and rerun the test. This time everything FINALLY passed. We were in business. I then decided to try connecting through my airport extreme router. I power cycled again starting with the airport then the modem then the xbox and ran the test and unbelievable as it sounds it all passed and my son is now sitting happily on the couch playing a game online with his xbox 360. This took away days of my life to get this simple thing done. I was given codes to change and change back on the computer, phone calls to everyone and the solution was so simple when you finally reach a knowledgeable person. Hope this will help save someone else the time I spent!
