To be honest I'm not sure! How do I tell or what does it look like? Thanks alot :o)

  • bbmnearly26 Nov 19, 2008

Yes mate all are connected correctly. There was no power going through the old board so I'm assuming because it has power now the board is working! Would I be wrong? How do I test the board if I am wrong? Thanks alot :o)

Its a laptop mate sorry I should have said that. I know where they are in a PC but not a laptop! Is it the little thing I had to place in another compartment next to the ram compartment on the back? It slotted into place and 2 little screws hold it in place if that helps. Thanks again :o)

  • bbmnearly26 Nov 19, 2008

The power supply works for sure as it was tested on another laptop. Thanks

I left my laptop in to get fixed and 2 different places and both told me it was the motherborad but they wouldnt do it. So I replaced it myself. I put everything back where it was meant to go but now when I switch it on the screen blinks once and then stays black. I had no power before I change the board but now I do. Apart from that I know nothing! Thanks

No didn't work but thanks for trying ;o)

  • bbmnearly26 Nov 19, 2008

Unfortunatly still no luck but Thanks for trying :o)

  • bbmnearly26 Nov 19, 2008

well everything lights up, I don't know if they work. I just connected a monitor but it didnt work. If it was an inverter problem shouldn't I hear windows starting? I don't hear anything. All that happens is the lights light up but they didnt do that before I replaced the main board. Thanks for your help :o)

there could be a problem with the PSU ( power supply unit ) and this may have been the original problem, so you could have wasted your money on a new motherboard.
check the power supply to make sure it works

ok, the next thing for you to do is check all connections to the display, also check the inverter (underneath the monitor display) and check that they are snug and plugged in properly, after that check that the memory to make sure its inserted properly and not defective

Did you connect the screen cables on the right way? Inverter cable?
Did you test the new motherboard before replace it?

yes its motherboard. GPU has failed. Most likely you'll need to get your motherboard Reballed or Reflowed. I have found some reasonable business partners that do this service through ebay. usually runs 80-140 to get fixed. good luck!

The motherboard must be faulty for them to give you that advice. you can look for people who actually repair those motherboards or replace it.

Acer 5100 Motherboard

the best place that i can think of would be www.laptops-motherboard.com
If you are looking for something locally, i would suggest finding a smaller (mom and pop) computer store... not one of the big ones(best buy/circuit city). hope this helps, please rate if it does...thanks

Power cuts off for acer aspire 5100

Hi,
I,d suspect your problem will lie with, the systems CPU ( Processor ) or a component Overheating on the systems Motherboard. I would,nt suspect the Power Supply personally. unless your batterys not charging.

If it won't go past the login screen, you should try restoring it from CD first, and then replacing the hard drive if that doesn't work. I don't have all the details, but from what you describe I don't agree with the motherboard diagnosis.
