It's a little tricky but here's how you get to the belt:

  1. Once you have removed the housing and the roller, turn the vacuum so that you are facing the pin the turns.
  2. Pull the belt to the back of the unit with your right hand so that the belt is against the pin on the front side and with your left foot apply pressure to the carriage where the roller sits. This action causes the plastic housing next to the pin to move toward the front of the vacuum providing enough space to slide the belt off easily.
  3. Be careful that you do not apply too much pressure with the foot.

SOURCE: Eureka Maxima Bagless brush not spinning in vacuum position

belt doesnt have to be broken, check the metal arm on the vacuum, see if there is build up of old rubber from previous belts, clean the arm that spins the belt and double check to make sure u have the correct belt

SOURCE: How do I to change the belt on an eureka altima 12?

the belt is on the bottom right (looking at it from the front). the Eureka website does have the manual for download, http://www.eureka.com/service/manuals/80244.pdf

With the vacuum flattened (straightened) out, turn it over and remove the back roller cover, (2 screws) once off, the roller should just pop out on the opposite side (opposite from the belt). Don't forget to turn the roller to center the belt once you have it on.

SOURCE: How to change belt on Eureka Whirlwind

On the top cover, there are holes at the front on both sides, there is a screw on each side in one of the holes. Take the out, and the cover should come off, then you can get to the brush roll and belt.

Have eureka whirlwind + vacuum. Smells like burning rubber. Is there a belt to change?

Yes. You may have a bunch of hair or string that is binding the brush roller. CHeck that while you check the belt.

The vacuum roller won't turn but the belt is fine Eureka Whirlwind Litespeed

The belt may look fine but it's probably stretched out. Rubber belts are usually good for about 1 year. The tension of the belt is what allows it to turn under the strain of the carpet. Make sure the brushroll spins freely when held out of the machine. Eureka brushrolls are prone to melt down on the end caps. If that has happened you will need a new one.

Loss of suction after a burning smell

The belt of the brush roller could of come off and could be causing the smell. Check the belt/brush roller

My Eureka Lite speed whirlwind has a bad odor when it runs.

It is either the filter or on the roller or belt.

Changing belt - Eureka Whirlwind 5740

I tried the website for manuals but no luck. I called the toll-free # 1-800-282-2886 and got a rep right away. I gave him the model and s/n (lower bottom on the back side) and he walked me thru it. For the model I have, there are 3 screws to remove - With the vacuum upright and standing facing it - there is on on the right and one on the left of the bottom cover and one on the left side near the hose intake. Remove those to get to the belt. I ordered the belt with him too - althought the belts were cheap ($2.99 for 2) the shipping was $8. If this didnt help - call the 800# - they were great.

Eureka 5197 self propelled bagless upright

Did you check the brush roll when you changed the belt? The smell of rubber would inducate a belt slipping. So if the brush roll (part #61308-2)isn't turning, the belt would get hot and would be slipping. If the motor sounds real loud, then you could have a bad motor(part #60775-4).
