hi Guys many thanks for your sugggestions and congratulations on your new President elect!

just yo be clear the GPS is hard wired to the cradle within sits the Axim X51v, and the Tom Tom GPS lights up to confirm that it is in communication with the cradle and Axim

Also the GPS programme port number cannot be the same as the GPS hardware port, so the Axim tells me; i have tried COM 7& 8 both ways around; Baud rate as per your instructions.

So there is not a notification icon that i can find >>> and i tried your suggestions and still not getting me home! So all help appreciated or do i give in and buy a stand alone GPS box ???

best regards and thank u in advance! Alan O'Duffy

Under Settings/systtem tab, you have to select the GPS icon and set the program port to "Com 7",also set  GPS Hardware port to "Com 7", and  baud rate to 57600, and then  "Manage GPS Automatically"
After u set up the pairing, and if  it doesn't give u the option to create a New Outgoing Port, just a New Incoming Port.
Then After you pair using the passkey "2003" there should a list of available services. Make sure you check the "use serial port" service.
And if still get any error just follow this steps
1. Delete the pairing in BT manager, if it exists.

2. turn on the gps receiver, then start the nav. software.

3. Let the program auto-detect. When the notification message appears, DO NOT select "yes" or "no"

4, Exit the nav. software. It will take about 20-30 secs. to exit.

5 Click the notification icon, then select "yes" to the pairing. When this is done, you can check the BT manager, and see that there is no partnership.

This seems to be the key.

6. Start up the nav. software, and it will connect automatically. Exit and start the nav. software, and it will always work.

The only problem, which I feel is minor, is when the BT communication is lost, cause then you need to start from step 2 again. Just remember to exit the software first, before turning off the gps receiver.

With this setup, you must ALWAYS turn on the gps first, then start the software. If you don't, then you  start from step 2 again.

Hi I got the right settings here : com1

    In your case use COM1.
And use 4800 as baud rate

    I quote:

"The problem is due to the corrupted serial driver name in the registry, that is why you see "Se???a?? ?a??d?? st?? COM1: " in Tom Tom GPS menu.

    1. Use a registry editor, e.g. PHM Registry Editor v0.70

    2. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Serial

    3. You will see the value name "FriendlyName" has some Russian characters for the value data

    4. Change that to Serial Cable on COM1:

    5. Make sure you exit registry editor from Tools -> Exit, that will save the changes properly.

    6. Now go to Tom Tom and your wired GPS should be working. You may need
to do a soft reset if Tom Tom is still not picking up your wired GPS.

Heres what I set my settings to in TT5(should be the same for all us
dell wired gps + tt5 users): In TomTom 5 go to Show GPS Status: Select
Other NMEA GPS, GPS baud rate:4800, choose Serial Cable on COM1. That should do it. give it a few seconds and it should see the satellites."

PS we don't have president here, we have the Queen and she is not elected, thanks the same btw.

Is there anything i can do to update my dell axim x51v

In the settings area on the Dell, there is a link to check for updates. This is the first step to determine if your phone has an update.
The Pocket PC follow the Window CE operating system.
Go to Start/Settings/System/About: This will tell you the version of the software you are running.
The go to the Microsoft web site type in Windows CE in the search block and see if it is the latest version. If it is, no update. If it is not then you might want to try it.

good luck and don't forget to vote!!!
