On boot up hit F8, when the sub menu comes up select "last known good configuration" hopefully that should do the trick.

keep me informed to your progress

To be honest, there are quite a few things it could be. Most likely you will have to do a full re-install if you have the disc. It sounds like the system files are corrupted.

If your not too tech savvy, then you'll want to go to a local computer shop to have them retrieve the data from your hard drive. And they would also be able to do a full install.

If you are pretty savvy, you could get a hold of a 2.5" external HDD housing.
Take the drive from your laptop and put it in the housing.
Then connect the housing (now considered an external USB drive) to another computer and browse for your files to back them up.
After that, do a full install with your original disk from Compaq.
If you dont have it, you may have to do a little hunting for W2k and the drivers for your laptop.

If it does it again, then you have a hardware problem.

Let me know if any of this helps.

Bios Passwords

The administrator password is a windows password, not the BIOS password. Sounds like it has logged you out.
Re boot and try again.

Cant log in to computer.dont know password. bought at auction

Lost Windows password:

  • Login as Administrator. Try with no password (load safe mode if you don't see Administrator). Press F8 during boot to access Safe Mode. XP only.
  • Login as other user (if other user is available) and manage users. Must be an administrator.
  • Reformat computer.
  • Use 3rd party software to remove password. Like http://www.top-password.com/reset-windows-password.html
  • Free software option would be Hirens Boot CD. This one is command prompt only. http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ Must follow instruction exactly.

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there

or

control panel user accounts

on the users tab, click the name of the computer administrator you can change the password there

How to i reset my password to get on my hp compaq 9030

if you are talking about the log on password for windows xp, when booting up, right before the windows XP logo comes up and it shows that its loading, press F8 like 3 times every second till a screen with writing comes up. If unsuccessful, keep trying, it should come up in 2 - 3 tries. Choose to boot in Safe Mode. when the logging screen comes up, log on Administrator. When logged on, go into control panel - user accounts - click on the account you want to remove password from and remove it. Restart PC, log in to the account, and that's it.

When my computer comes on, i cant log on as administrator because i for got my password

Normally the admin does not have a password set.

boot into safe mode. (repeatedly press F8) during boot up until the boot options for windows are displayed)
Select safe mode (nothing else)

at the logon screen select Administrator as the logon name and then leave the password blank.

If that fails you might want to try UBCD which has utility's for getting in ads cleaning out passwords etc.

Download it from the link above and burn it to a cd.
Boot the password protected computer from the CD and use any of the password utils on there once it has booted up.

I forgot my password to my dell xps m1530 laptop and cant log into my computer how can i bypass this and change it

METHOD 1:
One of the easiest solutions is to enter through another Administrator account, there is a bunch of hidden accounts with administrative privileges that come pre created in Windows for troubleshooting, the most common ones are named “Administrator, Owner, XP“. Any administrator account can reset the password of any other account.
If you’re NOT using the Windows XP log-in screen (the one with the icons for each user), you can try logging in with the account named ‘Administrator’, which is hidden on the XP log-in screen. If you are using the XP log-in screen, try pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del to reach the old, NT-style screen, which should allow you to type in the user name.

METHOD 2:
If no other account with administrative privileges exist (which is really rare), you will need to use a password cracker to crack it. Ophcrack would be my first choice as it is freeware and performs the job fast. You will have to use another computer to download the iso file from ophcrack.sourceforge.net, burn it onto a CD using any burning application (I suggest DeepBurner as it’s freeware).Boot from this CD and watch Ophcrack go to work. Based on extensive password tables, it can recover most passwords in a matter of minutes, for all the accounts on a PC.

Laptop wil not start. Dell Inspiron 8600

Insert a Windows XP CD into your CD/DVD drive.
Restart your computer.
It should now be booting off your Windows XP disc.
If it doesn't boot off the CD. Follow the steps below:
Change boot order in BIOS
  • When your computer is starting up tap the Del key and until you enter the Bios, when in Bios click on Boot order and change it to :
    • CD/DVD
    • Hard Drive (HDD)
    • Floppy
  • Then save and exit Bios (Your computer should now be restarting)

While it is booting off the disk you should get a prompt to Press R to enter recovery Console, Press R.

Press 1 to log onto Windows then press Enter. You will need the administrative password to get into to command prompt. If the administrator password was blank press enter.

Type into the command prompt : chkdsk /r and press Enter. When the Disc Check is complete type in Exit and press enter. Remove the Windows XP CD.

Windows should start up normally now.

If you have a windows cd handy. Go into your BIOS setting right at boot (f2 or del keys), it usually tells you what to press to get into setup. Change your first boot device to CDROM or similar. This options is either under a boot tab. or In a menu setup it is under "Advanced CMOS options"
After you get it to boot off cd wait for the screen to rest at a welcome screen. Press F2 to go into the recovery console.
The screen will be black and it will as you what operating system to log onto. I assum this is XP, if not change question specifyins OS. Otherwise, after it logs in, password is needed for administrator. Usually it is blank, or check your paperwork/online. After you have a command prompt, type chkdsk /r to repair any disk problems and try to reboot. If above doesnt work, boot of the cd again and instead continue at the welcome screen (enter) to repair windows. when it locates your oprating system, it will be displayed and you  can press R to repair it.
