You have to determine first if the Internet is working with you Internet service provider. If its a cable Internet you just have to reboot the modem router and computer in a correct sequence. Turn off modem, router and computer. No sequence in turning off the devices but when you turn them on there is. But you have to leave them of for 10 secs. Turn on the modem first then router and lastly the computer. If the connection is DSL you have to get the username and password from your Internet provider. You have to access the configuration page for the Belkin and you have to enter the username and password. There should be a wizard that you need to follow to set it up.
Plase connect the router with the computer using a lan cable. go to dos prompt and do a ipconfig then note the default gateway and then open internet explorer or firefox and write \\ followed by the gateway ip. usually the gateway is 192.168.1.1 so you write \\192.168.1.1. open internet explorer or firefox and type \\192.168.1.1 and press enter enter useranme as admin and the password as password or admin or leave it blank and press enter Configure the settings select the internet connection type(for eg its pppoe for DSL connection) if you are chosing pppoe please make sure that your modem is in bridge mode. If your modem stores your isp username and password then select Dynamic ip address. Please check with your isp regarding the connection type.
what type of internet do you have? does your internet require a username and password to connect ? Im not familiar with verizon but I believe you will have to input the information such as username and password for the PPPOE conenction on the router to be able to access the internet from the modem and be able to send the signal as a wireless internet from your router, try getting in your belkins GUI graphical user interface to be able to change the settings for the PPPOE connection from the modem to work and give access to the router on this case ^_^
1) With direct connect with modem, check the IP address and default gateway. (I came across such a modem, it gave default gateway as 192.168.1.254) I also had the doubt of configuring as a dynamic connection But it won't work! Contact your ISP to completely bridge the modem and configure the dsl modem as PPPoE connection with correct username and password. Finally connect the modem to router and do a complete network power cycle, i.e.: Unplug power from router 1st, then power from modem, unplug the telephone line and now do the exact reverse process... Plug back the tel. cable, then power to modem... now WAIT for lights on modem to come back, then plug in the power to router. This will surely work.
i just have a question, do you have an internet connection when your computer connected to your modem(the device provided by your Internet Service Provider)? Possible that the Belkin not working is that maybe you don't have internet from ypur ISP.
I suggest you to connect your computer first to the modem, turn off the pc and afterwards the modem, after 2 minutes, turn on the modem first, when all lights stable, turn on the pc and check if you can go online. If not, better contact your ISP first for them to check the connection. If everything working fine with your ISP. Reply to this post again and provide the following information.
Brand of the Modem?
Brand of the Belkin Router?
Type of Connection you have form ISP, DSL or CABLE?
If DSL, please make sure that you have a username and password from your ISP?
How many computers do you have?
What is the Windows Version your using or the Operating System?
Yes time warner is a cable connection and they dont require a username and pasword. You can set up the router manually by accessing its set up page. By default the router's IP is 192.168.2.1. Make sure to set the wan connection type to dynamic, change the wan mac address or clone your pc's mac. Then save the settings. Check your internet connection.
-- do you know your verizon username and password? -- what is the operating system of your computer? -- have you tried connecting your computer directly to the modem to check if you can get online?
you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router
Step 1: Shutdown the computer. Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable. Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds. Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable. Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable. Step 6: Power on the computer on and configure the router settings, you need to input your verizon username and password on the router setup page then save the settings. Step 7: test the Internet connection.
if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router
Do you have a different modem from TALKTALK? can you connect to the internet through that?
if so, you may not have to set a username and password for the belkin router: just connect the belkin router's internet port to the talktalk modem and let the talktalk modem handle the automatic connection.
do you know what protocol the talktalk ISP uses? it's probably PPPOE; make certain that your belkin router is set to the correct protocol. if you just hook it up to the talktalk modem though, you probably won't have to specificy a protocol at all.
