Question about Dryers

Ge dde6500gbl electric dryer motor will not start

Dryer stopped working in dry cycle. Discovered that ground strap was broken(now replaced). Did not work. Discovered the spring loaded start button had a broken internal sliding part to start switch that when pressed closes the circuit to start the cycle and when released leaves the circuit open. When the slider was broken it left the circuit closed full time. (slider now repaired and functions properly). The door closed indicator has been tested with voltmeter and functions properly. The heater coils which are controled from part of the push to start switch heat properly. I used the voltmeter to test the cycle selector contacts and found resistance at 3 different locations with the dial in three different setting positions. I suppose the cycle setting dial is ok. I checked for blockage in the blower tubes and found no obstructions. Still, when plugged in, the motor makes no noise nor will it turn. I checked the wheel/armature of the motor for obstructions and it spun freely. I see no damage/burns on the motor from heat or wear. I just don't know what else to do or check to make this machine work. Please help!!!

Hi and Welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly

You already have discovered the problem. Lint has built up in the vent / exhaust ducting. Most of the time the through the wall vent flapper gets lint build up on it outside the house and then as that restricts airflow you get condensation in the ducting. The condensation causes the lint to form a cake like paste inside the ducting. THOROUGHLY Clean out your vent ducting from the dryer connection all the way thru the outside wall and your dryer will be fine. If you need to replace the ducting please do so. Ducting is cheaper than the electricity you waste on clogged ducting. You proved your dryer will work correctly when you dried a load of clothes with the ducting removed.

Thanks for choosing FixYa

The dryer (electrical) stop working every couple of minute and i have to push the start buttom over and over till having the load dry

If your dryer is more than 3 years old, this issue may be caused by a broken motor. Regardless it still working, the motor may continue with this problem until it stops working.

The only solution for this may be replacing the motor.

sounds like the motor is running, the belt could likely be broken and be the culprit, this is if the motor is turning for sure after you start the dryer

you should not have heat when motor stops there is a switch in the motor to shut the element off....yours is not working(you could burn your house)replace the motor.
PLEASE DO NOT TRY IT AGAIN...can't be lucky all the time

Dryer Stopped

Probably has a blown hi-limit fuse. Long dry times are often caused by restricted vent. Clean vent often. When vent is restricted it causes heat to build up in dryer and this blows hi-limit fuse. It's protecting your dryer from a possible fire. Location is dependent on model and gas or electric.
