I'm having the same problem. The Brother MFC-7440N printer at my office won't print envelopes from my laptop which runs Windows 7. I brought my laptop home and tried to print on my Brother MFC-7820N. Doesn't print there either.
When I try to print from my husband's laptop which runs Windows Vista, the envelope prints just fine on the MFC-7820N. I haven't tried taking his laptop to work but I bet I can print on the MFC-7440N through Windows Vista. I'm thinking it's a Windows 7 problem.
