My HL-DT-SL DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device zas not work & not fined

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this...

Anyway, a few days ago my DVD drive icon on my laptop disappeared...

I am running Vista Home Premium (32 bit i think) on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop.

When i ran Device Manager, under DVDCD Rom Drives, all of the drivers having a warning sign on then (the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark)

Heres what I have:
HL-DT-SL DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device

When I go to Properties for the HL-DT-SL under General, in Device Status I get the message...
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

If I run Check for Solutions, it does something for a few seconds and just stops.

Restarting doesn't fix my issue

If I check to update drivers, it says I am up to date. But I have a feeling that my drivers are corrupt or something. I am sort of afraid if I uninstall the CD drivers, I won't be able to fix it.

Anyone know what I can do?

I have the same problem, though mine comes up with an error code 10 and the device is not detected. Please help.

    Hi Nima,

I was wondering whether you have removed (uninstalled) the device in device manager, rebooted and then tried to redetect the drive ?

It may be worth instead of relying on windows to check whether you have the most recent driver, check the toshiba website directly (you will need to know the model number however, which you haven't said here ?).

If the above fails, something else to try might be to put into the DVD drive the product recovery CD in and see whether it successfully detects it. Obviously don't restore the laptop back to factory defaults!

David is right, the easiest thing to try is deleting the device and having Windows reinstall at startup.

I got the fix from Microsoft and run the exe to fix the "upper" something and after that it can see the CD/DVD drive. I think it is a Windows bug. Not a hardware failure. (Cost me a trip to local store)

Try running System Restore to a day just before this failed. It's a software issue according to other forum posts elsewhere.

YOU MIGHT TRY FIXYA.COM AND LOCATE UPPER AND LOWER FILTER FIX. VISTA HAS THIS PROBLEM AFTER ONE OF ITS UPDATES. REMOVING THE FILTERS IN THE REGISTRY USUALLY (UNCOVERS) THE DRIVE AGAIN.
