It would seem that you are not the only one with this problem with the USB's, the only soloution i have found that people say works is to reset the cmos (remove motherboard battery without any power cord attached) for 10 mins, or, go into the bios and reset to default/optomised defaults

hope this helps

kind regards

When upgrading the bios you have to make sure, its the right mainboard bios file.

Open the case and look for the mainboard number.

Flashing the bios with a wrong one, will destroy the mainboard !!!!

Good luck

Usually the main usb ports for the pc will be on the rear panel of the machine. If you feel safe to do so, switch the machine off and unplug from the power source, remove the side of the machine and touch a piece of bare metal on the chassis to remove any static build up in your body, then have a look around on your mainboard, try to trace the cable from the front usb connections to the mainboard, and see if there is a usb2 version of the socket which they are plugged into, swapping to this may solve your problem.

Hope this has been helpful.

Most Asus motherboards by default have the USB ports enabled in the bios.
Buy the item, Y adapter below to bypass the PS/2 keyboard port on the motherboard; http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=1538&sku=27225
You should be able to enter the bios using a USB port. Or buy a single PS/2 to USB; http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=1538&sku=35700
