Hi Sybabe,

I got windows xp and I got new HP officejet 5610 all in one printer. I got two new printers. One I installed to my boyfriends computer (same that mine). and everything went ok, no problem. When I started to installed to my computer, power went of at middele of installation(when I put the cd in). When the power came back on and when I try to re-install it it tells me that program is already running, but nothing happens. Where I do have to go to find Where it's running to re start installation? If I try to turn computer off it's tells me that there is programm still running. Where in earth it is running ,I really wanna catch that son of b###s. I checked add/ remove hardware it's not there, so I can't delete it. When I put the HP installation cd in, I have only two options Install or exit. When I click install it's runs good till installation is almost 3/4 done, and then it's checking hardware and it's slows there almost 1 1/2 hours. My computer is only 3 years old and it have enough free space, and I think that hard drive should be big enough for that. I just want to know when it tells me programm is still running, where I can go and find it and re-started installation again .
Thanks Cathy

I'm sorry, but you will HAVE to elaborate on this issue. There are many types of installations and many different peripherals, software, etc, that are possibiltites to install in different ways. Please be more specific

    Cathy,

Correct me if I'm wrong, are you say thing power to the printer turned off in the middle of the installation or the computer? I'm guessing the printer. And Why can you NOT print jet? What type of printer is this? If you cannot find the printer in the control panel for add/remove hardware, the printer software has NOT been installed. What you should probably do, (I am guess because I have no idea what printer or computer you are using), is reinstall everything, and do not skip out on anything, ie. jet printing. Just as an insurance so you will know that you have installed everything you need from the driver.

Also a big PS. What are the requirements for this installation and do you meet these requirements? If you are low on RAM or especially storage space, you will NOT be able to install the driver for use. (You might get lucky on installing, but not for using it). So let me know how this turns out.

This procedure demonstrates how to install Windows XP Professional. The procedure to install Windows XP home edition is very similar to the professional edition. Since Windows XP Pro is more advanced operating system, it will be used to demonstrate the installation procedure.

If you want to have both windows 7 and windows xp installed on your computer, it is advisable that you first install windows xp. You should allways install the oldest windows version first. To install windows XP on your computer you need the installation cd. Boot your computer with the Windows XP installation cd, maybe you have to enter bios to set cd to boot first. How to install microsoft office

Insert the installation CD and wait for the setup wizard to load. After you insert the installation CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive, a dialog box will appear prompting you to begin installation. If this dialog box does not appear, double-click your CD drive and explore the contents of the CD. Double-click the file called "setup.exe" to start installation.
Select an installation type. In the setup wizard, click the "Next" button until the dialog box asks you to select an installation type. You must select either "Minimum," "Typical" or "Advanced" installation. Although the "Typical" installation is recommended, you can select "Minimum" if you wish to use as little hard disk space as possible to install Microsoft Office XP. Selecting "Advanced" will require you to select individual components you wish to install. Do not choose this installation type if you are unfamiliar with these components.
Finish the setup wizard and restart your computer. Click "Next" and wait for the progress bar to indicate that the installation was successful. Click "Finish" to close the dialog box and finish installation. When the dialog box closes, restart your computer

WHEN I INSTALL LINUX FEDORA, I WAS UNABLE TO PLAY THE VIDEOES AND MP3 SONGS N NEITHER ANY EXE FILE EXECUTED.....

In order to play MP3's you will need to compile and install the " lame " audio codec's.
You will also need to install codec's to play back video.
You will also need to install Wine to run windows EXE's within linux.

To install A large package containing the most popular codecs

I believe you need to install the livna repository if you have notalready done so. The instructions for doing so are located here : Livna
Then you can install with yum
amarok-extras-non-free
you may also need to install
gstreamer
gstreamer-plugins-bad
gstreamter-plugins-ugly
and perhaps some others .. just do a yum list | grep gstreamer
or
yum -y install yumex
and you can use yumex [gui for yum] to search

You may also want to install the codec package which you can grab here : Codecs
And follow the instructions here to install them : Installation

To install Wine you can simple type the following command into any shell / terminal available

yum install wine

or

su yum install wine

Do not know how to install software

How to install a software program can depend on the operating system being used and the program being installed. Because of all the different possibilities, we have created the below steps as guidelines for installing programs in each of the major operating systems.
Notice: This document has been created as a basic overview on how to install software programs, games, and utilities on your computer. If errors are encountered during the installation, this document will not cover those errors.
General Tips
Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, and XP users
MS-DOS Users
General Tips
  • Make sure your computer meets the requirements of the program, game, or utility you are attempting to install.
  • The manuals for the program or the readme file located in the same directory as the install commonly contain exact instructions on how to install a program.
  • After installing or during the installation, a program may need to install other programs, files, or utilities before it is able to run. If this is the case, the program will commonly prompt you to install the program or you may need to run a separate install before the program can be fully used.
  • When installing a program, utility, or game, it is always a good idea first to close or disable any other programs that are running.
  • After installing a new program if it prompts you to reboot the computer, do it.
Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, and XP users Many software programs, games, and utilities have an AutoPlay feature that will automatically start the setup screen for the software program when the CD is placed in the computer. If your program, game, or utility contains this feature, run the installation through the screen that appears after inserting the disc.
If you are installing a program, game, or utility that does not contain this feature or you are installing a program from a floppy diskette, follow the below steps.
  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Within the My Computer window, open the drive that contains the installation files. For example, if the files are on a floppy diskette, open the A: drive. If they're on a CD or DVD open the D: drive or the letter of the disc drive.
  3. Within the drive that contains your files, locate either a setup or install file. Double-clicking on this file should start the installation for the program, game, or utility. If you see multiple setups or install files, try to locate the Application file or double-click each of setup or install files until you find the file that starts the installation. Many times the icons associated with the installation files have the same name.
An alternate method of starting the installation in Microsoft Windows
  1. Click Start and Run.
  2. In the Run Window, type x:\setup or x:\install where x is the letter of the drive you wish to start the installation from. For example, if you are attempting to install a program from the floppy disk drive you would type a:\setup or a:\install.
MS-DOS Users Users installing a program from Microsoft DOS should have a basic understanding of the MS-DOS commands. If you are unfamiliar with any of the commands listed below, click the link to get additional information and examples on the commands.
  1. Before installing a program in MS-DOS, you must switch to the drive and/or directory that contains the installation files. If you are installing a program from a CD or diskette, switch to that drive. Additional information about switching drives in Microsoft DOS can be found on document CH000515. If the installation files are located in a different directory, use the dir command to list the directories and the cd command to switch into the appropriate directory.
  2. Once you are in the directory or drive that contains the installation files, run the executable for the setup. Many times this can be done by typing setup or install at the prompt to start the installation. If both of these commands give a bad command or file name error message, type dir *.exe or dir *.com or dir *.bat. These commands will list any executable files; if any files are listed, attempt to execute these files to run the installation or setup of the program. If no files are listed when typing all three of the above commands, it is possible that either you are in the incorrect directory or drive letter, or that the program.
Additional information about running an file from MS-DOS can also be found on document CH000598.
Additional information:
  • Information about problems that can occur after an install can be found on document CH000123.
  • See document CH000506 for information about how to extract a file that you've downloaded before installing a program.

Windows Installer - Preparing To Install message keeps popping up

Try using the 'Windows Installer CleanUp Utility'. This utility helps resolve installation problems for programs that use Microsoft Windows Installer. If you use this utility, you may have to reinstall other programs. Caution is advised.

Use the following link: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

You must be logged on to Windows with a user account that is a computer administrator to run Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

When you use Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, you can perform the following functions:
  • Select one or more programs that were installed by Windows Installer from the Windows Installer CleanUp dialog box.

To do this, select the programs that you want in the Installed Products list in the Windows Installer CleanUp dialog box. After you make this selection, the utility removes only Windows Installer configuration information that is related to those programs.

  • Remove all Windows Installer information associated with the selected programs. This includes the entries for the programs in the Add Or Remove Programs item in Control Panel. Be aware that only the Installer information for that particular program is removed, not the files.
If you use this utility to remove Windows Installer configuration information for your program and you plan to reinstall the program, you should reinstall the program in the same folder where you originally installed it. This prevents duplication of files on your hard disk or disks.
