Question about Maytag Neptune MDE5500AY Electric Dryer
Said he thought it was lint, looks like it could be a pad those goes around the front top of the dryer drum.. Is it important and how long can I use the dryer before I have a major problem?
The felt is attached to the front bulkhead to your dryer. in some cases, the dryer drum itself runs on that felt. other times, it is sitting just above the drum. if your drum actually rides on the felt, you will need to get it fixed because the glides will get worn and the drum will start to scrape on the front bulkhead. if you open the door and take out the 4 screws ( 2 on either side ) then you will be able to take off the front panel. once that is off, there is a 3/8 nut screw on either side ( on the top ) that hold the lid in place. remove those 2 screws and you can lift the top of the dryer. this will give you a better view of your dryer and the extent of the issue.
