A/C unit went down with no warning. Any clues???

Check power connection to the wall, check fuse box to make sure the fuse switch that handles th A/C unit hasn't been tripped, check all GFI outlets. If all else fails call your HVAC/Air conditioner repair company.

How to wire a 220 house window air-conditioning

First. If you are not familiar with electrical work have an electrician do this. If you need to provide a 220 outlet a new wire from the circuit panel will be needed. A 110 outlet cannot be upgraded.

I believe I might need to change my (20 amp) breaker switch that is running on 10-2 wire which supplies power to my Rheem Classic 10 Seer. I'm not sure if I need to have 220V of power on a 30amp...

Hello, the unit runs on 220 volts that's why # 10 wire must be used. The best bet is to use a 40amp breaker for 220 volts, gives the circuit more protection.

The reset button is part of the cord. The cord has built in arc detection. This is a complex circuit that monitors the unit and senses potentially dangerous sparks or arcing inside the internal components of the A/C (motors, switches, etc.) It sounds like the problem is getting worse - as they usually do. Sparking and arcing happen when dirt, corrosion, etc. accumulates and can result in pitted contacts. All of these conditions only make the sparks and arcs worse. Page 1 of the manual (left column) says this:

If the Arc Detection Device has tripped, the
reset button will pop up.

Follow these steps to reset the Arc Detection

1. Unplug unit from electrical outlet
2. Press the reset button
3. Plug the unit back into electrical outlet
4. Check to see if power has returned to the unit

You should test the Arc Detection Device
equipped power cord monthly, after every major
electrical storm, or if power to your Room Air
Conditioner has been interrupted.

Follow these steps to test the Arc Detection

1. Unplug unit from electrical outlet
2. Press the reset button
3. Plug the unit back into electrical outlet
4. Press test button. Unit should trip and reset
button will pop up.
5. Press reset button again for use
If above test fails, stop using the air
conditioner and contact customer service by
calling the following toll-free number:
1-800-332-6658 or email:

I hope this helps & good luck!

My Maytag Portable Air Conditioner Model #M6P09S2B keeps popping my breaker. Can you help me solve this problem?

This can because by a couple of things. An electrical fault within the AV Unit or the electrical circuit the unit is plugged into has other electric appliances on the same circuit. Thereby, overloading that one circuit. Try plugging the unit into another outlet that is on a different circuit. If it trips a circuit breaker then, the problem is within the unit. In which case, you will need to have the unit checked and serviced.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Air conitioner started to automatically climb in temperature, we shut the unit off, put new batteries in the remote. the uit will not turn on at all. Prior to this the unit worked perfectly. Can you...

Since it was running (although not cooling) when you turned it off (and put batteries in the remote) it would be strange to have no power at the outlet - but I would check and make sure.

The easy way to check your outlet is - toplug something else in there - like a hair dryer or a lamp - 'assuming' your unit plugs into a regular household outlet, and is indeed a 110 volt appliance.

Step 1 - plug another appliance (hair dryer or lamp) into the outlet

If - after plugging something else into the outlet, i.e. a hairdryer and it works ok - you will - then know that there is nothing wrong with your power supply (110volt outlet). So you can move on to Step 2

Note: if the other appliance does not work - then you need to check the Circuit Breaker to see if it's tripped off. Many times circuit breakers will trip for no particular reason and just needs to be reset (turning breaker off and back on). If you find the breaker is tripped - and you reset it - and the unit - runs and cools ok - I would just keep an eye on it for a few days - watching to see if it does again. A breaker that "keeps" tripping for no apparant reason is an indicator of something electrically wrong within the unit and probably needs a Service Tech to troubleshoot it.

Step 2 - Since the power supply is ok - see if you can start the AC manually - without using the remote. If the unit will not start "manually" - I would look for a "reset button/switch" (*not all units have one) and reset it. Note: if after resetting the unit - it still does not run then proceed to next step (step 3). Or if you can't find a reset button I would look in my manual and see if it can help you find it - if, however you do not have a 'reset button/or can't locate one' then go to next step (step 3).

If - however, after resetting - "the unit comes on and -runs and cools- ok" - I would then 'turn it off,' and let it set for 5 minutes and then try operating it with the remote. If it works with the remote I would then assume you just had an 'electrical glitch' and everything should be ok. If it "doesn't work" with remote I would suspect a defective remote and replace it.

Step 3 - since you have power (at the outlet) and either have 'reset' the unit or can't locate a reset button, or there is no reset on the unit - you are now in need of a Service Tech to electrically trouble-shoot the unit to find the problem. Note: I'm assuming at this point 'Nothing' is running, - not the fan motor - or the compressor, in which case you might look for a "fuse" in the unit - again not all units have one, indeed most do not, but it's something you could check, and easily replace if it's bad.

If, after completing all the checks above and the unit still fails to come on (either manually or with remote) - then you are, as I said above, in need of a Service Tech.

hope this has helped

We just bought a frigidaire 22000 btu unit. We we

If you have or know someone how has a multi meter just test that you have 220 volts at the outlet. Thats about the only way to tell. The fan will run if you only have 120v at the outlet, just not the compressor. so it will not cool. If you only 120v at the outlet it could be just a fuse or breaker problem. If it's a new outlet then it could be wiring wrong also.
Hope this help

Maytag A/C window unit

Check all of the connections at the outlet. If everything looks ok test the outlet that it is plugged into with a tester. They can be picked up at most stores for around 8 dollars. If you dont have a tester you can just plug in another device that you have into the outlet and see if it turns on. If everything checks out OK then there is an issue with the A/C unit. It could be alot of different things. My recommendation to you is if it is under warranty contact Maytag and send it in for service. If it is not under warranty you can either contact Maytag and send it in for service or you can call a local heating and cooling shop and see if they can service it for you. Keep me posted - Tech101
