The wire connection between the two units is often a source of problems, even in better-quality canister vacuum cleaners. The reason is that there are four sections to the connecting wire: from canister to hose, from one end of the hose to the other, from one end of the power-head tube to the other, and within the power head itself. The end of each section of wire has a connector. If the connection is not made sufficiently, the power head doesn't operate or operates intermittently.
In most cases, servicing the power-head wire connection simply requires that each connector be checked and tightened as needed. If a specific connector frequently makes a poor connection, you can clean the male and female connections with a small piece of emery paper and a can of compressed air.
Broken wires or worn insulators can sometimes be reconnected and wrapped with electrical tape. However, the wire may be located inside the hose, requiring that the hose be replaced as well.

The procedure to replace the power cord completely is to open the machine and then disconnect the old faulty power cord and then connect the new as the old was connected.but to open the machine is not a easy procedure as it requires proper tools to do that.as if you have new power cord with you .you can just try to cut the old power cord from very much near to the unit and then calso cut your new power cord and connect the wires of new and old power cord to the same matching wires properly.and check out it should work if the machine is not working properly.but if it is due to any internal short circuit u will have to take it to the proper repair center and get it repaired. NOTE: please do not try to do any service /reparing work when the machine is ON or connected to the electric outlet.it may cause fatal errors. thanks.

Well, power cords generally aren't sold for replacement, what you can do is go to a local menards or other similar store and buy a cord there and then cut off the other cord, preferably leaving a little to work with and then wire the two cords together. you will need to buy a new plug and also an adapter with the cord and then wire it all together. A menards associate should be able to direct you to the correct parts if you have trouble finding them. You could just take in the old cord and match it up so that it is exact. to actually do this, you will need a phillips screwdriver, a utility knife, and a large wire cutters. Very simple, let me know of any questions that you have while doing this.

The cord runs inside the handle, the handle is like a **** shell, a few screws and it comes apart in 2 halves, all you will need is common household hand tools, it will be easy.

You will have to take the vacume appart to get to where the flex is connected to the vacume itself, once inside the job should be straight forward enough to detatch the old flex and attatch the new one, some connections are screws and some have "spade" connectors take note as to which connections they are.

hope this helps and good luck

kind regards

Available replacement parts for your vacuum can be order online from this site:

http://canada.bissell.com/Products/p/pethaireraser/ak/replacementparts/Product.aspx

I don't see the power cord available but would recommend you contact the company through their Customer Support to see if a cord may be made availble; quite possible the cord for another model would be suitable.

Contact information can be found here: http://canada.bissell.com/Customer_Support.aspx

Vacuum cleaner power cords are just insulated wires. It should be fairly easy and inexpensive to replace. You did not give a brand or model number, but hear is a list of available vacuum cleaner power cords

Dog chewed on the power cord, how do I replace it?

I would try to find a repair shop to replace it as bissell does not currently offer replacement power cords (atleast not on their website) if your power cord is only chewed in one place you could always just splice it back together and use some electrical tape. sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I need to replace the power cord for my Bissell Vacuum

Should be simple replacement. Once you have the correct replacement cord, just remove the cover, this only involves removing screws, trace the power cord to where is is connected. Once you have found it either write down where each color wire goes or undo one wire at a time and replace with new one. Should be simple fix...just take your time.

Bissell won't turn on

the motor could be ceased up. do you hear a buzzing noise? if you dont hear a buzzing noise, turn it on for about 1 minute, unless it starts smelling hot or starts smoking. if nothing happens after that, try replacing the power cord.

My dog chewed through the power cord (luckily unplugged). Are there replacement parts available and I can't seem to find out to detach the cord from the unit.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are replacement parts available for the replacement of the power cord and to check your owner’s manual to see the schematics of the replacement of the cord. You can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or you can call cust serv @ Bissell @ the phone # listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Replace power cord on Bissell vacuum model 3596

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Usually the Bissell needs a genuine cord because there is a special grommet or cord protector that goes into the bottom of the Bissell of the machine or sometimes you can use a replacement cord and then also use a replacement cord protector as well to replace the cord. If you have a problem then contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or contact the Bissell factory cust service to get an owner’s manual for the Bissell. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
