Question about JVC Everio GZ-MG21 Camcorder

1 Answer

Cannot transfer files from Everio to Macintosh

I have a JVC Everio HD Camcorder GZ-MG575AA and I cannot get my Macintosh to recognize that it is connected.  Is there software for macintosh?  The camera came with a windows software package.  I have since bought a new mac Leopard not realizing that it does not seem to be compatible with the camera.  I have spent money on a good camera and computer without the results I am looking for.  I have files from a once in a lifetime trip which are useless to me.

There is no known "bought" Mac software for this camcorder, you could go to the Mac OSX forums and ask to see if anybody has wrote any software or drivers for this device.
you could also perform an update whilst the camcorder is plugged in to see if Mac's server picks up the new hardware

hope this helps

kind regards

I have an Everio GZ-MG130E Camcorder but I've lost the software when my computer crashed Where can I download so that i can transfer the film of my daughters wedding to my computer.

Hi Antonius,

Welcome to FixYa.

Unfortunately, JVC does not provide the complete software for download. You will have to purchase the software by contacting JVC support in your country.

But, you can transfer the files to your computer without installing the software as shown in the below images:

Can't transfer videos from JVC Everio camcorder onto my MAC

Share: How to import .tod files from JVC Everio HDD Camcorder to iMovie?

Requirements: iMovie (Part of the iLife 08 package)

Step 1: Connect the Everio to the Mac (Via USB)
Make sure you are powering the Everio from the mains before connecting your JVC Everio Camcorder.

Step 2: Playback on PC
Select “Playback on PC” on the Everio, once connected you will see the Everio HDD symbol appear on the desktop. The video files on the Everio are stored in the SD Folder/PRG***/MOV***.MOD.

Step 3: Open iMovie
Once you open iMovie, you will see that it recognizes the Everio straight away and will attempt to import your video.

You are now ready to use iMovie to edit your video files.

If need change .tod files to common video formats like mov, mp4, m4v, mpg, mpeg, dv, flv, avi, wmv, 3gp, mkv, mp3, aac, wma, m4a, etc. Mod Tod Video Converter for Mac is a good choice. The program can also convert mod tod to ipod, mod tod to iphone, tod to apple tv, tod to blackberry and more devices!

UpDated Firmware for the JVC GZ-HD7U.

There currently are no updates for the camcorder, they discontinued the camcorder shortly after it hit stores.. seemed to have alot of issues.
To the other user with the similar issues. The camcorder isn't the same as a DV camcorder and you may not be able to capture live. My suggestion would be to mount the camera using the USB cable and copying the video files from the camcorders internal hard drive to your desired location.
You may need an application to convert the videos, I suggest MpegStream Clip. They have a version for PC and Mac.

My JVC everio GZ-MG555us did not work with my HD laptop window Vista.

When you plug in the camera XP should see it as an external drive.
You will need to copy all the MPG files over manually.
Check the JVC site regularly for a Vista software pack.
