The F2 does get to the setup screen then no other keys ( arrow keys work ) to change boot options. I have tried USB external mouse but that didn't work and now I will find and try a USB keyboard next. Thanks.

I would have told you to go into the bios but seen as you say that F2 key does not work on boot indicates that the keyboard has failed, to check this try another keyboard and see if you get the same result, or if the keyboard is USB try it in a different USB port

hope this helps

kind regards

Dell dimension 3000 keyboard freezes up on bios options

I would try this, unplug the computer from the wall, reopen the case and you should see a small "watch" battery on the motherboard. This allows the computer to save the bois when there is no power. Pull the battery out, now before doing anything else; hold the power button in on the front of the computer for about 30 seconds. Let the computer set for a couple of hours (the bois at this point should be cleared, by I have seen were you have to leave the computer sit, so I added this). Put the battery back in the computer, turn it on and try to get into your bois setting. It accually should come up with an error to enter the bois because the date and time are way wrong.

Hope this works for you

Gx620 boots up, then screen goes blank, reboot gives blank screen with cursor blinking. will boot with cd but still shuts down after a minute or two.

Remove the battery and open the case. Look inside the computer with a flashlight to see if any of the capacitors are busted or leaking from corrosion. The capacitors look like little battery towers, but they are not as tall as the AA or AAA batteries.

If the capacitors are bad, your computer goes bunkers.

Dimension 8300 boots up to a black screen that says "Alert! Storage battery voltage low" Press f1 to continue, f2 to enter set up etc If I press f2 I can use the keyboard to scroll through...

i think storage battery low indicates that the cmos battery is losing its ability to reatin a charge. try replacing it. if that doesn't solve your problem, you have deeper issues. consult a professional if this is the case.

Try restoring your system bios to factory default and this may fix your problem. If not- post again with results and we'll go from there.

Entering System Setup

Turn on your computer.

When the blue DELL logo is displayed watch for the F2 prompt to appear (black screen / white text).

Once this F2 prompt appears, immdiately press F2 .

The F2 prompt indicates that the keyboard has initialized and is detected. This prompt can appear very quickly. Watch for it to display as the screen powers up, and then press F2. If you press F2 before you are prompted, this keystroke will be lost. There is a small window of time to do this before Windows starts.
If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop. Then, shut down your computer and try again to enter setup. At setup check your bios version. It may need to be flashed (upgraded). Select load factory defaults to see if that will resolve your PCI issues.

If it is a USB then it should work with any keyboard and mouse. When you say it shuts off after XP loading screen, does the machine power off? have you tried unplugging the mouse and keybaord and let Windows load?

During your boot screen press the F8 key to boot into safe mode. If that gets you to the desktop run virus/spyware scans. Reply with any results.

Dell Dimension 3100 e10 ...usb won't work

Does the system respond to boot keys (F2, F12) when the DELL logo appears? If so the problem is with Windows drivers and probably can be resolved by reinstalling or rolling back the drivers, but how? Do you have access to another keyboard? Does the system have PS/2 ports? Do you have access to a PS/2 keyboard or adapter? If boot keys work, you could also choose F8 for Last Known Good Config (XP) or System Restore (Vista).

Have you tried different ports (front if using back or visa-versa)?
Try using just keyboard or mouse to see if one has somehow shorted. Also check the ports for any sign of damage.

Inspiron 530S Power Save Mode Loop

First you need to make sure that there are no other removable devices plug on the system, like usb, external hard drives, then if that will work try to go to the bios, press f2 when you see the dell logo, and go to the system setup, go to the boot device configuration and make sure that removable device is not the first boot device, if it is the first one choose hard disk and then second boot device ad cd rom/dvd rom and then disable the 3rd boot and the fourth boot device. Make sure to save the changes. And restart the system again. Once the computer is back and running try to go to support.dell.com and check the bios, download if there is a bios update for the system.
