Question about RCA HD52W59 HDTV Projection Television

1 Answer

My colors are out of alignment, I can actually see three different ones they are about an inch apart on the screen and there are 3 color lines draped across the top. I get a high pitched squeal, it has had the squeal for a while but it would come and go, now it is constant.

the other thing is that it looks like the picture is bowed in on all four sides

  • fisherking27 Nov 20, 2008

Thanks for the reply. Do I need to remove the fuse to check it. Is it something I can get locally? Is the fuse marked so I can identify it?

  • fisherking27 Nov 22, 2008

Thank you very much, the 75 cents I paid for the new fuse kept me from missing the game and buying a new tv.

  • fisherking27 Nov 29, 2008

    New problem, it keeps blowing.

  • fisherking27 Nov 30, 2008

Yeah, I forgot I got so caught up in the tv working again but I did it this time

  • rcspotts Dec 06, 2008

My TV (HD52W59) blipped while I was watching it and now it looks as though the colors have seperated from each other. I tried to switch the feed to video and when the screen is black you can see three color lines (blue, red, green) seperated at the top of the screen.

Convergence. very common. First question when you go into the customer menu under setup do you have the convergence option. If you do not suspect the convergence fl231 fuse problem. i hove wrote instructions under the tips and trick section. The bowed picture and line definatley indicates a loss of convergence power. There are three seprate cuircit boards that controls this convegence power, convergence amplifer and the small signal board.. the small signal board would have to be replaced by tech. as there is special equipment requird. the other two you can do. If you have convergence option try the autoconvergence option and watch to see what it does

Picture shows 3 colors on everything.example.if there's a hand.there's 3 hands and each is a different color Blue .red.green

There are actually 3 projectors inside, each handling one of those three colors which, together, make all the other colors. This is called "out of register" where they are aiming slightly differently. These need to be adjusted.

Green tint to screen

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai2_bing.gif,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

On the lower 1/2 of the screen on my panasonic 53 inch rear projection tv the colors are out of sync

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

My Toshiba 42H83 has developed a color problem. The color blue is about an inch off the other colors, the picture looks like a 3d movie without the glasses. I have used the touch focus button on the...

Alot of rear projection t.v.'s have a convergence option in the menu on the t.v. There you can set the try to set the colors back how their supposed to. Mine has a cross in the middle of the screen and you just have to try to get all 3 colors to line up. Unfortunately, the actual lens inside mine has to be aligned so it doesnt work. Just something to try though, hope it helps.

Green tint on Samsung Television

Hi sbatsch,

Not to worry - this problem is very common with projection TVs and is easily fixed:

The reason for the green shadows (and the resulting wrong colors) is that the three color tubes (red, green, and blue - the three colors of light that combine to form all the other colors) are not lined up exactly - this lining up is known as "convergence." You can fix convergence automatically or, if it doesn't work to your satisfaction, manually. Here's how:

Automatically:
1) Press MENU.
2) Go down to CONVERGENCE (using the up and down arrows)
3) Select it (usually with the left or right arrow)
4) Go down to AUTO and select it - the process should take about a minute.

If this doesn't work, then try manually:
1) MENU
2) CONVERGENCE (as above)
3) Select MANUAL
4) Using the number keys, SELECT, and the arrow keys, adjust the alignment of the different color crosses - the goal is to make them appear white (meaning that the red, blue, and green are exactly aligned on top of one another).

Here's a link to the JVC user manual that will explain the manual convergence adjustment in more detail.

http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/96/52105ien.pdf

I hope this helps - please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Color alignment is off

i also have the exact same problem. i picked up 3 of these used for my work and kept one at home. I knew one had issues and another had a burned out bulb and so on. I had a repair place to combine the two to make one good one. The repair man said that they had a real hard time keeping the color locked in alignment. It's not a physical alignment, its controlled by the board output and somehow the board can be adjusted. It was vague to me. After about a good couple of years of hard use the one at home is now doing the same. On one hand I want to fix it but I dont even have a plasma so I may go and spend $800-$1000 on a hi def DLP. At that price it won't be the best but it will rock this projector. that would be my advice rather than putting more money into this old model.
