Flash attachment for Minolta SRT 101

I lost the cover for the battery compartment on my old Promaster FA 1000 flash attachment very recently, making it inoperable. I need some kind of flash attachment replacement for my SLR that predates a hot shoe, ie, it has a shoe attachment but also requires a cable hook-in to the camera itself.

You just need to look for flash units which state that they have a "sync lead" included.

I've often found that if the unpowered accessory shoe is metallic, then it's essential to stick a bit of electrician's insulation tape down on the flat part of the shoe to enable correct operation of flash guns which have a powered foot. Most don't appear to turn off the foot when the sync lead is plugged in and will either instantly fire when charged due to the short circuit between the foot contacts.

Older automatic/manual flashguns with sync leads are plentiful and the manual ones especially are often free on FreeCycle. If you're in the UK then send me a message at rambobrob<insert "at" symbol here>yahoo.co.uk and I'll send you a used but boxed and working Jessops 100M for just the postage costs.

Lundgrlm,
You can find flash units on e-bay at a very reasonable price.

I have a Nikon promaster FL120 flash. I put new batteries in it and now it won't work. What could be the issue?

If it was working and the only thing you did was change batteries. it can really only be two things. Bad batteries or they were not put in correctly.

Try another set set batteries that are fresh out of the box and also make sure they are put in the flash in the correct way.

Metz flash sony nex camera

Sony NEX 6 has an ATG/Sony's Multi-Interface-Shoe.

Let's hope the Metz 58AF-2 Flash is made for Sony/Minolta, which has an old Minolta's hotshoe.

Contact Sony for the adapter.
Or just buy the Promaster Sony Multi-Ineterface Shoe Adapter, it less than Sony's.

Getting the promaster 7400edf flash to meter properly with canon eos 60d

The flash model for Canon is 7308 it might be the correct flash but programed for the wrong brand/manufacture. The way I see this flash is that Promaster produces this 7400edf to work on all the major camera brands but it's programed for a specific camera. The flash firmware updatability is done by a dealer. Another thing I ran into with one of my students cameras (a Canon) was you needed to go into the menu to select external flash over internal. I believe Canon is doing this due to the video capabilities of the camera.

I have a Minolta 700si and want to put a MD Zoom Minolta Celtic 100-200mm lens on it. Is there an adapter that I can get to use this lens and have it fit properly?

There were years ago, but you did not have auto-focus or metering as I remember. Also there adapter had an optic that was not too good so the lens lost a lot of quality when used. Get an SRT-101 for use with the Celtic lens.

I have a Minolta 5600Hs flash. It's worked great

I would not recommend you fix it yourself since several of the inside componentes are high voltage and dangerous. But, why wont the flash turn on? if the batteries are good, could it be the battery contacts on the battery door and inside the flash? If the batteries have ever corroded (even a little) then that would be the problem. Use a pencil eraser to shine up the contacts until they are bright and shiney clean. Do not use sand paper or anthing vabbrasive as that will cause the contacts to corrod more and the problem will be worse.

Trying to replace the hotshoe mount myself I broke the wires off the connectors. Should I try to resolder them back myself or do I risk damaging the flash even more.

You should try it only if you have the capable skill. Too much heat on the contact for too long may damage the plastic around them making the connection or mounting of the flash worse. If you have the ability you could do it, but make double sure that you are connecting the correct wire to the proper contact, since each contact has a specific job. If you are not sure send it back to promaster for best results. http://www.promaster.com/support/repairs.asp
