Flash attachment for Minolta SRT 101

I lost the cover for the battery compartment on my old Promaster FA 1000 flash attachment very recently, making it inoperable. I need some kind of flash attachment replacement for my SLR that predates a hot shoe, ie, it has a shoe attachment but also requires a cable hook-in to the camera itself.

You just need to look for flash units which state that they have a "sync lead" included.

I've often found that if the unpowered accessory shoe is metallic, then it's essential to stick a bit of electrician's insulation tape down on the flat part of the shoe to enable correct operation of flash guns which have a powered foot. Most don't appear to turn off the foot when the sync lead is plugged in and will either instantly fire when charged due to the short circuit between the foot contacts.

Older automatic/manual flashguns with sync leads are plentiful and the manual ones especially are often free on FreeCycle. If you're in the UK then send me a message at rambobrob<insert "at" symbol here>yahoo.co.uk and I'll send you a used but boxed and working Jessops 100M for just the postage costs.

Lundgrlm,
You can find flash units on e-bay at a very reasonable price.

Cant find the batteries for the cam

It uses a 2CR5 battery, which should be available at most electronics or office-supply stores. An online source is at http://www.batteriesplus.com/product/31018-RAYRL2CR5--1-Lithium-Battery/563-0/4739-Film-Camera-Battery/56279-Minolta/Maxxum-400si.aspx

It has a Minolta A-mount lens. Any of the newer Minolta (and some Sony) lenses may be used. The older Minolta lenses for the SRT-series cannot be used.

How does it function without any flash attached? If it only malfunctions with this flash attached I'd bet it's an issue with the electronics in a dedicated flash. If that's not the case, either consult a local tech, KEH Camera online, ebay the camera, or scrap it.

If it was only when you used the flash, make sure the camera is set to 60 on the shutter for the flash. If this is happening all the time, then you need to send the camera off for repair.

I checked the TTL flash contact at the right side of the X700 hot shoe, but no TTL flash control, instead the flash unit gave a full burst.

This could be several things. From loose/dirty cable connectors to circuit board issues. It could totally be just the age of the batteries and capacitor in the flash taking a long time to charge, making it look like it took full power. Put in new batteries or take out the old ones, rub the contacts on your jeans, and put them back in.
When you quit laughing, this actually works. It removes that thin patina that develops on the battery terminals over time.
It's also possible that the flash sensor is dead, but that's the least likely item.

I have a Minolta 700si and want to put a MD Zoom Minolta Celtic 100-200mm lens on it. Is there an adapter that I can get to use this lens and have it fit properly?

There were years ago, but you did not have auto-focus or metering as I remember. Also there adapter had an optic that was not too good so the lens lost a lot of quality when used. Get an SRT-101 for use with the Celtic lens.

I also have a 7000 that needs a battery holder and with cover

Rodger, I can't help you with a replacement battery holder. If you plan to keep the camera, after all its almost 25 years old, I suggest: Take it to a repair guy. Why? find out what caused the short, and fix that, or you will have the same problem again. Get another one on Ebay as a parts source. Hey, they are old cameras. Otherwise: If the camera came with lenses andstuff, go to Ebay and get another cheap Maxxum and use the lenses on it. It will have a faster autofocus, weigh less and be smaller.

Minolta Electroflash 360px will not fire.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news sounds like my camera! The capacitors are notorious in these cameras they dry out if you don't use the cameras regularly and they need to be replaced most camera shops are aware of this. The parts are available to them on micro-tools.com if they have a hard time sourcing them. Hope this helps

What kind of camera ?
Take the batteries out of the flash. Try to fit the pieces together and hold down with pressure it should just slide off. Don't touch any bare wires if showing.
