Question about Photography
I lost the cover for the battery compartment on my old Promaster FA 1000 flash attachment very recently, making it inoperable. I need some kind of flash attachment replacement for my SLR that predates a hot shoe, ie, it has a shoe attachment but also requires a cable hook-in to the camera itself.
You just need to look for flash units which state that they have a "sync lead" included.
I've often found that if the unpowered accessory shoe is metallic, then it's essential to stick a bit of electrician's insulation tape down on the flat part of the shoe to enable correct operation of flash guns which have a powered foot. Most don't appear to turn off the foot when the sync lead is plugged in and will either instantly fire when charged due to the short circuit between the foot contacts.
Older automatic/manual flashguns with sync leads are plentiful and the manual ones especially are often free on FreeCycle. If you're in the UK then send me a message at rambobrob<insert "at" symbol here>yahoo.co.uk and I'll send you a used but boxed and working Jessops 100M for just the postage costs.

You can find flash units on e-bay at a very reasonable price.
