Question about SmartDisk 250GB SMARTDISK CROSSFIRE EXT Hard Drive

WHERE TO BUY REPLACEMENT POWER CORD

Can anyone help me find a vendor that sells replacement computer power cords for SmartDisk Crossfire 250G hard drives? Verbatim or the companies they refer me to only want to sell me another hard drive. Even if I wanted to purchase another 250G Crossfire hard drive, most places are out of stock or discontinued. I purchased a Smartdisk 750G hard drive since Verbatim told me that I could you the same cord on the 250G. Wasted my money, they are not compatible. The pins on the cord that plug into the hard drive itself are damaged, bent or broken off. I just want to be able to transfer my files off of this hard drive since it no longer seems to be supported by Verbatim.

I just today ordered a new power supply adapter for my Smartdisk Crossfire 250 gb hard drive (I had a broken pin on my original one). Paid $29 plus shipping. We'll see if it arrives this coming week. If you still need one, here's a link to it:

Good luck!

Hello, I lost the power adapter when I moved. Do you know which one I need to purchase, and do you sell them or know where I should buy one? Thanks.

Look on the back or the bottom of your device. The power requirement should be molded into the plastic or printed on a label. Find the voltage and whether it is AC or DC. I'M GUESSING ... it may be 19 volts AC, for example. (I don't know where you live so I dong know what the voltage is at your home or office)

Go to any store that sells electronics and/or computers, they will have a power adapter that will run your device. A good place to start may ge the place you purchased your SmartDisk.

I hope you found this helpful. Thanks for your question @ FixYa.com

The 5v power pin on the AC adapter of my SmartDisk Crossfire external hard drive has been broken. How do I get a replacement AC Adapter?

Take your SmartDisk to any computer-store.

They can open the case, remove the disk-drive,
and mount the disk-drive in a new "empty" external casing,
with a new power-supply.
See: http://www.canadaram.com/3_5_sata_enclosures.htm
for a sample of various "empty" cases, for about $30.

My firelite smartdisk model cord does not fit into my new macbook air. can i buy a cord that has a usb port at one end? thx

The MacBook Air has one USB port. Most computer stores have many different plugs on the other end that will fit your SmartDisk. Most of the SmartDisk units use the mini USB plug. It is the same as many digital cameras use.

Tiger Direct, and MicroCenter also have many different adapters, and adapter kits to use on all kinds of USB devices.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if there are any more questions.

Lost the power lead

Yes it is, might be more cost affective to just buy another compatible enclosure for $40 or less and move it inot replacement case.

Ex.hard drive

If the hard drive isn't detected at all by your computer then it may be defective. If you can test it on Linux or Mac and see if those detect it, may just be a driver issue in Windows. You can also try going to Disk Management in Windows and seeing if its there and manually assigning a letter or if that doesn't work you can try a hard drive data recovery program from http://www.stellarinfo.com/download.htm. Hope it helps!

Our crossfire doesn't work

Usually this is a problem with the usb port not being able to supply enough power to the drive. The current is often limited at the usb port, and the hard drive may need more than what is being supplied. This is a common problem, and the drive itself is usually fine. If the usb cord has 2 usb plugs on it, plug them both in. If you have an external power jack on the drive, use it.
