Oven does not light

When I turn on the oven, the display goes to PrE (preheat mode) but the oven does not heat up. The ceramic igniters are cold, there is no smell or sound of gas. I hear a relay click in the control panel when I press Start. It is also dead in Broil mode: no gas, cold igniter. The range top works properly, so there is gas and electric. I could not find a schematic. Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Oven does not light

Even if the ingitor glows, and the oven wont lite, the odds are that the ingitor is bad. it must draw 3.2 amps to open the gas valve. the only way to test the ignitor is with an amp probe. replacing the ingnitor is about 90% a sure thing.

Re: Oven does not light

Mine does the same... There was smoke for a bit coming from the range for a bit and the breaker tripped. I removed the control panel and lifted the relay daughter board and seen where the burnt component is. I'm ordering a new control panel today.

When i turn on the oven it starts up as normal , "on" then "Preheat" then runs. About 30 minutes later both the "oven on" and the "preheat" indicator lights start blinking.

follow this test and fix it. God bless you

Oven Igniter

As the oven igniter weakens over time, it will take longer for the gas valve to open. If the oven doesn't bake evenly, it may be that the oven igniter isn't opening the gas valve when it should. This will cause the oven to cool down more than it should before the burner reignites. The oven temperature should not cool by more than 40 degrees before the oven igniter relights the burner.

Oven Control Board

The oven control board has a set of relays that turn on and off power to the bake and broil circuits according to the customer settings and sensor input. If the oven won't heat the problem is usually with the heating components. However, if the oven control board is bad, it might not send voltage to the heating components. To determine why the oven won't heat, first test the simpler components in the circuit. The oven control board can't be tested easily and will have to be replaced if it is defective.

Frigidaire gallery stove

Hello Debbie - Sounds like the unit has loss some of its heat inside of the oven cavity. This means it cannot reach the proper preheat temperature in the programmed 30 minute timeframe. A technician would be required to further diagnose this concern. They would most likely assess the convection heating element, thermal cutout, thermal oven sensor and all wired connections for repairs. Lastly the oven cavity and insulation should be checked to ensure there are no gaps or damages that will leak out the heat. At t his time, I would recommend contacting a professional to assist you further.

Oven takes forever to preheat

The way the oven works is like so:
1) User sets the desired temperature
2) Power is sent to the ignitor
3) The ignitor is then energized, drawing 3.2 amps of current
4) When the 3.2 amps is drawn, the gas safety valve is allowed to open and gas flows into the burner assembly in the oven.
5) This gas is then ignited, causing the oven to heat.
6) As the oven heats up, the oven sensor, which is the metal rod located at the top on the rear oven wall, converts the heat into an electrical signal, relaying this information to the main control which in turns displaying the temperature.
(In models with a dial thermostat, there won't be a sensor, though a metal wire with a bulbous end will be present, which is actually connected to the thermostat.)

Oven Pre-heats too high

Your oven sensor has gone bad and telling the control board/thermostat to keep heating. Find the model number on the range and go to a parts distributor like or and order you sensor. This is an easy repair.

Oven Problems Replacing the Igniter

Oven takes too long to preheat. 20 minutes to get t0 300.

3 possibilities:

1. Broil burner is cycled with bake burner during pre-heat ... make sure both burners are coming on during the pre-heat ... could be ignitor or gas valve failure on one burner ... you can check Broil mode to see if the broil burner ignites...

2. Temperature sensor bad or connections corroded ... this can signal the electronic control that the oven is hotter than it actually is...

3. Fault in the controller itself. If this seems likely we can test/repair it for you if you like.

Frigidaire range model #FEFLFSA, is the top element

When you say Top Element, I assume you mean the TOP OVEN ELEMENT, correct? You have bake, and broil? Bake is usually on the bottom, and broil is the top. In order to have the oven operate correctly, the top and bottom elements may come on at start, in order to do as you just said, "Preheat the oven". This will insure an even distribution of the heat in the oven box and result in better cooking expierences. I would not be alarmed or concerned if the top element came on for a short period to pre-heat in preparation for cooking. This is normal. If the top element stayed on, and did not shut off on bake after the pre-heat period, then I would say you have a control board problem. However, if it comes on and then goes out, except when you are broiling, then I would say that this is normal for your stove, and the pre-heat mode of operations. Your owners manual should advise you of this very process in the guide section to how to use the oven. I hope this helps and that all your cakes, pies, souffle's and the like are......delicious. I'm sure they are. I hope this helps and eases your concerns. Kindest regards, Slats.

Maytag oven doesn't light, broiler comes on instead

On some gas ranges, the broiler comes on with the bake selection during warm up. This allows the oven to preheat much quicker. More than likely, the control pad is functioning properly and your bake igniter is bad. Igniters become weak with age and eventually go bad. Since the bake feature is used more frequently, it typically goes bad more often. The following link provides you with some guidance on oven igniters:

Remember: just because an igniter glows, does not mean it is good. If they become weak, they will not draw the required current potential to open the gas safety valve.

If you determine the igniter to be bad, you can obtain a replacement at Just type in your model number and go to the "Gas Controls" heading and look for item number 14 (part number 74007498). If the igniter plug does not match the plug you have on your oven, the instructions will guide you to cut the wires and splice the ends together. There should be ceramic wire lugs that come with the igniter kit. CAUTION: Make sure you only use the ceramic (heat resistant) lugs that come with the kit. Splicing with regular wire lugs or electrical tape will melt due to the heat. Additionally, make sure you UNPLUG the appliance before replacing the igniter. Live voltage potentials are still present with the range shut off.

I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.
