Hi,

May I offer a different perspective, it is possible that your computer is infected with a virus and/or a malicious program. Before trying out any and all re-installation, pls try to:

  • do a Disk Cleanup (Start/ All Programs, Accessories, System Tools). Check all boxes;
  • run your antivirus;
  • download, install and run Ad-Aware;
  • do everything again in Safe Mode. Reboot, press F8 before Windows starts;
  • Press Windows key + R, type "msconfig" less the quotes; goto Startup tab, un-check everything that you feel is unnecessary such as monitor, updates, and others.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

I hate to state the obvious but have you subscribed to an internet provider? It is required to have one in order to connect to the internet. Furthermore laptops require that you hook up through your phone(wireless or landline) are you doing so? You can also now get wireless broadband "modems". Be sure you have this before you mess with all the connectivity issues. Hope this helps.

Check the connection of the internet cable and make sure it does not have a short or is not broken and that you have it plugged up to the right area. Then unplug it and restart your computer. Then plug it up and see if it lets you get on that time.

Dell 700m laptop has 512MB or memories and 40GB of hard drive.
the reason that you are having problem is the memories is working over time, because of all of the Internet Temporary files and cookies taken pu all of the available hard drive space.
512MB for a 2.8Gz machine is not a ideal setup. you need to upgrade the meories to 1GB at minimum.
in the mean time right click on internet explorer>> properties or control panel Internet>> open.click on deleted under the browsing history, click on delete all, and check the "also delete files and settings stored by add-ons", click yes and OK.
Don't worry! ths is only deleting all of the Internet Temporary files. and cookies. it will not affact what you have stored.

that should at least let you get on the Internet.

    "clicked on Control Panel...nothing happened" - you got a serious Windows problem.

    Since you can't access Control Panel, follow the following steps to do a System Restore, try to remember the last time your computer worked fine and go back to that date.

    To start System Restore using the Command prompt, follow these steps:

    1. Restart your computer, and then press and hold F8 during the initial
      startup to start your computer in safe mode with a Command prompt.

    2. Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode with a Command prompt option.

    3. If you are prompted to select an operating system, use the arrow keys
      to select the appropriate operating system for your computer, and then
      press ENTER.

    4. Log on as an administrator or with an account that has administrator credentials.

    5. At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER. ( %systemroot% = your local drive, usually C: )

    6. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to a functional state.

    Click start and type "Internet Explorer" and one of the options will be to

    run with no addons. Try this mode to see if it runs ok. If so, then the

    problem lies in a plugin being used and loaded by IE when it initializes.

    Under Internet Options/Programs tab in the Control Panel, there is a "manage

    addons" button. Click it and begin disabling unnecessary plugins that load

    with IE.

    Go to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level

    Now scroll down to the Downloads section. Enable "Automatic prompting
    for file downloads". Enable "File download". Click "OK" and apply the
    changes.

One of the add-ons is causing the IE not to respond, you can start internet explorer without odd-ons, try this, if it works and you get the connection try to re-install add-ons like java and macromedia flash or why not try google chrome, this is blisteringly fast and i think you would enjoy what is does.
Also check all the programmes and drivers have all booted up before you try to connect to the internet as IE is a memory hungry app!

please keep us informed of your progress in case we have to help you further

good luck and kind regards

    copy the file to your computer.
    uninstall the IE in contol panel, programmes and features in vista. reboot the pc and clean the registry, if you don't have a registry cleaner, download CCleaner

Dear Sir/Madam,

Which OS(operating System) is using. For ex. Windows vista, Windows XP etc.... Please let me know. Also update the internet exploxer. Try to Update the OS.

Also There is a Vista Home Premium machine which IE crashes frequently.

This issue may be caused by some 3rd party add-ons. As a result, please reset the IE settings to disable add-ons:
1. Close any IE or Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
2. Open a new IE window.
3. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
5. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
6. When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the settings, click Close, and then click OK.
7. Close IE. (The changes will take effect the next time you open IE.)

After that, please open IE again to verify if the issue has been resloved.

Thanks
good luck

    1.Start - Run - regedit

    2.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\BrowserHelper Objects

    3.If you get there, you will see few keys(look like folders) that are in numbers and alphabets.

    Delete all of them.

I purchased a new Dell Inspiron processor. The pop-up message for registering will not respond to the demand for registering,etc. It is a Dell Inspiron 545s desktop.

I would recommend deleting the Dell help and the Dell register via add/remove programs. You can go onto Dell.com and register just as easy.

Try clearing your browser history, cache, cookies, & temp. internet files. These all can be accessed using your internet tools option in the right hand menu of the browswer or by right mouse clicking on your browser icon. If these get too full they slow & eventually stop the explorer from responding. Hope this helps.

Goto windows update, and make sure you have the latest version of Microsoft .net framework.. (also any other service packs for ie7 that you don't have, along with security updates)

Most of those sites use the .net platform, and that may cause issues if it is not up to date.

Other then that, you might try to re-install IE7, or, revert back to Ie6
