It is probably in the "protect" mode. When this happens, the amp will have power going to it and seem to be turned on, but no sound. Many amplifiers have a LED that is normally red and it lights up when in the protect mode. Check all the LED's on the amp and see if one of them is for the protect mode.

When an amplifier goes into protect there are usually only 2 reasons for it.

1. A bad speaker

2. A channel blown inside the amp.

Disconnect the speakers to the amplifier and see if it makes the amp come out of protect mode. If the amp has an LED to indicate when it is in the protect mode, this LED will shut off, and sometimes they have a relay inside the amp that you will hear click. If you hear the click sound form inside the amp after you disconnect the speakers, you probably have a bad speaker. Take yours to a service center and ask them to check them for you, many shops will do this for free, I know that my shop will do it for free, so I assume that many others will also.

If the amplifier has a blown channel, you need it serviced. There is no quick fix for a blown channel. If you have a multimeter I can tell you how to check some of the components inside to verify if it has a blown channel. Let me know if you are able to do this and I will give you instructions on how to properly test the components. If you do not have a multimeter, there is really no way to figure out what components are bad. Your only choice would be to take it to a service center for repair. They can give you an estimate of what it may cost before you are committed to paying for a repair. Most car amplifiers will cost about $100 to $150 to repair a blown channel. It just depends on how much damage there is, and the rates of the service center.

I hope this is helpful, and if so a good rating would be appreciated. If you need to communicate more with me to determain what the problem is, please wait to give a rating until we are finished. That way I will not get an undeserved bad rating. By the way, the only rating that is good (meaning that it doesn't lower my over-all rating) is a FixYa! rating. The "Helpful" and lower just bring my rating down. After all, the only reason for offering this free help, is to get a good rating.

I have a LG Mini Home Theater FB162 system and I have it connected but the sound coming from the speakers is very low even when the volume is up to Max. any ideas on what is wrong and how to fix it?

I think it's either one of two things. First the main power amp is faulty. In smaller systems this can often be done by a single IC power amp. You can check this by looking on the heat sink and see if you can see a multi pin device attached to it. It might have the letters STK on it. If you put the letters and any numbers found on this device into Google, you can see how much they cost!
The other possibility is the volume control IC is faulty. If they sound goes up at all, even though very weak, I would put more money on it being an output problem than anything else. One thing is certain the pre-amp section is working, which is why you can hear sound! It's just not getting fully amplified.

I have a punch 800.2 hooked up to two 12 in Kenwoods in a ported box and it will hit for about 20 minutes then turn off why I had another amp just like it before hooked up to 4 free air never did that

??if your question is why will amp over heat and shut off ,when using a ported speaker enclosure VS. a non ported enclosure . then the answer is Force feed back , the entire idea behind a ported box vs not , is that port or tunnel is cut to length of time it takes for a narrow set of sounds to travel thru tunnel and out to front , this adds a known delay , hence it adds to "Punch" speaker can put out , and since the times of neuton (really before) we have known that in physics you all ways have to give something to get something , so it takes more power to force that sound thru the tunnel vs just out the front . more power means more current , more current is more heat , hence amp shuts off earlier than if using a compression type box

Mounting amp to car

make sure you mount where you can get a good ground and where it can get enough air to keep cool. underneath the car seat is where a lot of installer put the amp, and if you are going power up a lot i would think about mounting a fan to blow air on it to keep it cool. i have fans connected to my laptop power supply transformer to keep the unit cool, here other ideas you will never be told, putting little holes around power supple, fan area, any where there a lot of heat is generated the air flow helps it stay cooler while powering up the amp.

good luck and be safe rod

Hi- I have a Kenmore dehumdifier that has stopped filling up with water. It sounds like it is working but no water is in the tank. Any ideas?

A dehumidifier works with heat, so you should see if it is getting warm or not. Although the fan is working (sound you hear) it might not be working other than the fan. If you have a clamp on amp meter you could see how many amps it is drawing which is usually quite high.

I have a 98 buick century someone put an after market head unit in and now i have no sound the harness is all tight any idea what else i should look for?

Was this just installed or did it just quit. If it was just installed make sure the remote turn on wire powers up the factory amp. Some decks will stop all sound if there is a short on a speaker. disconnect each speaker cycling the key each time and see if you get sound

Kenwoodxw1000f shut off after 10 sec

the problem sounds like your new sub is drawing to much power and your amp can not handle it. bridging the amp is a good way to get the full power out of your amp. But it isnt always suggested, my solution is to get a bigger amp. I install stereo systems for a living, and i tell my customers that it is smart to get an amp about 100 more watts then the rms rating of your subwoofer.

Federal Pacific Breaker and whirlpool appliances

You have the wrong breaker You need to buy a breaker that pulls power on each side of the bus if it is not a single pole double trow switch it will not work on the box. It needs to get power from both buss bars. Go to a electrical warehouse to get the right one.

I get a pop from the sub when the power comes on.

This is caused because the stereo you have put in, is a high power output, or higher than the factory and puts that extra power into the factory amp systems causing the amp to surge the power to the speaker resulting in the pop sound, most newer cars use a stereo system without an internal amp so as to reduce heat and a external amp in usually under a seat or dash and a high power stereo boost the output of the amp.

Power in amp but no sound to speakers

you need to make sure youre getting a signal from the source, RCA's I suppose. Check for loose connections or broken wires. make sure to have 12v+ on power and remote inputs at amp...proper ground too. Lastly, check your ohm loads at speakers, maybe one is about dead. make sure crossover settings are correct.
good luck!
