My TV is 5 years old. For the last week and and a half, the Led light is flashing. It flashes 5 times, stops for a few seconds, and then flashes again. This is happening all the time, even when the TV is shut off. We don't use the remote that came with the TV, we use our Cablevision remote. However, I was dusting the remote control holder, so I took them out and put them on the couch. Does anyone know of a button on the remote that could have been accidently hit? If not, so far the TV is working fine still, but does the led flashing mean something is wrong? Thank for any help, Marie.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

5 blinks if for the ballast that powers the light. You can try changing the bulb first, if that doesn't fix it then I believ it will be your ballast. If you haven't changed the bulb before It could probably use one anyway, and you could keep the old for a spare.
Here are some more from sony on this.
