Question about Archos JukeBox AV480 (80 GB) Digital Media Player

Open Question

ACRlibrary malfunction The ARClibrary function has failed on my AV480 All the music is still there, and accessable via the browser function, but the catalogue library has died. I have upgaded the firmware from ver 1.6.06 to ver 3.1.0 but that hasn't helped. I guess there is a lower level operating system, or else a specific allocation table has become corrupted. The FAT32 table is obviously ok as I can read all the hard disc without a problem. Any Ideas please?

SOURCE: Firmware upgrade results in arclibrary boot failure

I managed to overcome the problem by doing a factory reset. Unfortunately doing this initially created more problems in that on reboot the main screen appearance looked as it should but was almost inoperable. When the usb cable was connected to my pc the disc did appear on My Computer . The system folder was only 1MB. By good fortune I had copied and saved my Archos files before I carried out the factory reset. Copying the original system files ( about 20MB) back to my Archos returned normal behaviour. Further, two additional buttons appeared. One was a manual arclibrary update button and the other a USB setup button . I cannot get file transfer to operate under windows media player mode and Windows media player 11. No problem though. I use PC hard drive mode and carry out a manual arclibrary update. None of this was possible prior to the factory reset. I believe I would still be having serious problems had I not saved and restored my system files

SOURCE: File Allocation Table corrupted

I got rid of the problem on my own, please read below how I solved it.
Basically, the partition of hard drive was still there but with corrupted data about its files indexes. With a free HDD rescue tool I was able to identify the partition and fix the problems regarding its corrupted indexes (file allocation table and toc).
After fixing the problem, the device became fully working and there's no data loss.

Universal remotes under the best of circumstances only provide for the most basic of remote functions. Always best to get another original or another remote from the same manufacturer around the same year - they usually have very similar frequencies and are interchangeable.

Ghost librarary: deleted files still shown on media directory

The problem is that the Archos stores library information separately from the actual files on the device and the library must be updated whenever the files are changed.
To manually update your library:  From the main screen on your Archos 605, choose the Settings menu from the bottom right corner and select "System".
If there is an "Update ARCLibrary" button available, then click that button and see if it updates your device.
If the button is not there, or does not work, then try temporarily switching the "UBS Preference" setting to 'Windows Media Device" and closing the Settings screen.  This should invoke the library update.  Once updated, you can switch back to PC Hard Drive Mode.

ArcLibrary wont update

I had similar problem at Archos Gemini 202s. ARClib would crash. I solved as follows: Created a folder on the 202. Moved half my files and folders from the Music folder (via de PC, of course). Then checked for correct update of ARClib. If not, I swapped the contents of the folders and checked with the other half. If update is succesful, it is now known what half is the faulty one.
Now, try to troubleshoot this faulty half in the same way. And so on. Quite quickly, you know what file(s) cause the problem. Good luck!
