Question about Dynex DX-E401 Router

Open Question

I have switched to Grande Cable and my router will not work

I am trying to get my son's xbox live in his bedroom to work. My computer in the masterbed room has a DYNEX E401 router, when I plug my internet connection into the router and the router into my modem (this is a wired connection) I loose internet connection. I have a long internet cable that runs from my bedroom to my son's.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Betty Friedell

Im not sure i understand completly.

But have you tried power cycling?

(shutting off the router for 10 seconds then plugging it in, do the same with modem if needed)

I see you had this problem on nov 18th so im sure you fixed it by now. but who knows?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: I have switehed to Grande Cable and my router will not work

ok, lets test the first obvious things. keep in mind that i'm not trying to be insulting at all. i don't know if my words may come across that way, but that is not my intent.

have you unplugged both the modem AND the router, connected them, THEN powered them on? the modem in particular may need to be unplugged for a time varying from 10 seconds to 60 seconds.

is the cable good? try using this cable to connect your modem to the computer. try using another (even if shorter) known-to-work cable to make this connection.

if the long cable fails, and the short one works, then that is likely our problem. if they both work great, we keep looking.

please let me know how these tests help you.

I am trying to get xbox live in my sons room, but my modem and router are located in the living room.it is wireless but i have no clue how this all works

The Xbox 360 does not have a wireless adapter built in. You must connect it through a CAT 5/5e/6 Ethernet cable, or purchase one of the Xbox Wireless Network adapters.

My wireless computer will not work while son uses xbox live

It seems as if somehow you assigned the 360 to the same IP address as your wireless router. On any of the devices attempt to release the current IP and grab a new one.

I gave the xbox elite to my 17 year old son for christmas...we try to connect (we have fios) but we get an IP adress error....i've tried everything...he is trying to play call of duty 4.....is there a fee...

The service is called Xbox Live, it ranges in price from $7.99 for a month to $49.99 for 12 months in the United States.

But first you need to have the console connected to the internet.

Make sure you have a broadband connection (cable or dsl) not a dial-up.

Connect one end of the ethernet cord to the xbox and the other to the router or switch in your home network. You may have to enable the xbox in the router settings. Just find the IP address on the bottom of the router/switch for example 192.168.0.1. Now type that number into the internet browser on your computer (Internet explorer, firefox, chrome). Consult your manual for direction to set up a connection, also have the router set to DHCP.

If you set it up right you should be able to connect to xbox live. If not, try this website here, it might be able to get you connected.

As a last ditch effort you could try calling 1-8004MYXBOX but I doubt you will get help from there.

Any questions, just contact me at my profile or put a comment below.

I hope I helped you solve your xbox live problem

Wireless not working

Run the network tests from within the 360 menus - looking especially at the result for network address translation (NAT). If this is either limited or fail, you will need to change your router for one which is compatible with xbox live. Try xbox.com to work out which routers are recommended.

As far as your router kicking him when you connected your pc, then you must have altered the access permissions of the router maybe by accident.

If all else fails, turn off the pc, router, modem and 360. Find the reset button on your router and press/hold this for at least five seconds. Turn on the modem, then the router. Let that settle for a minute, then connect and setup 360 and laptop.

D-link connection to xbox live . works fine on computers

We had a problem with our Xbox doing this, take a cable from one of the comptuers and then try to hook it up. If that don't work, look at the MTC or the username and password information for the router which you might need on the router. Do you need a username and pass for the router? If not then you can connect directly without putting the pass into xbox. This may help, but that was what the problem was on ours and Idk if it will work for yours.

Connecting xbox live to my d link 1005d

Is the PC's connected to the D-Link able to browse the Internet? Sometimes the MAC Address will bind to certain IP's and must be cleared out when the Router is replaced. Please unplug the power to the router, X-Box and Cable or DSL modem. 1st plug in the power to the DSL/Cable modem until the "Ready" light comes on. 2nd plug in the power to the D-Link Router, wait 30 seconds then plug in the X-Box, power on and test. If a computer plugged into the D-Link will browse Internet then this is the solution to your problem.

Xbox 360 wireless connection

If you already have wireless router you will need something like this:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelessnetadapter/

Or you can always buy a third party wireless device that is capable with Xbox 350.
