The problem I have with this tv is an intermitent change in the picture from normal to something to negative (dark) with colors, some times I see a white horizontal lines or bars and the picture is ok again for a few seconds and again the picture is dark. I try to play a dvd by the RCA connectors and the result is the same.

The Main issues with the Mitsubishi HDTVs that size are the projection bulbs in the rear. A large TV like the Mitsubishi can allow dust build up on the lamps and the mirror in the rear that projects the picture to the screen. An easy fix would be to clean off the dust off of the mirror and bulbs. You would need to go through a tough processto do this since the mirror can be quite heavy and is in an ackward place. The only other alternative would be the need to replace the projection lamps themselves which can cost any where fromm $150 - in some cases $300 a piece for the lamp itself. The Television is still a great set but can cost quite a bit right now to fix if the problem is with the Lamps. If you can afford the Lamp replacement if it is needed the set would last you another 10 years plus. If you wouldn't like to go through the hassle of repairing the set or finding a place to repair the set there are so many new sets out in the market that will give you an amazing picture and quality.
I believe you either have a bad LCD Controller Board or a bad Main Board. The only way to know is to replace one. If it doesn't fix it , replace the other. Or replace both and it should be fixed.
I hope this helps,

i had that same problem with my at&t dvr box the tech they sent out said the tv and box when hooked up with an hdmi cable were not compatible said they were working on the problem. what he did was give me home good hi-def cables to hook up tv works fine now
Normal color picture is composed with 3 colors R-G-B (Red-Green-Blue). Picture turns Red means: Missing Green and Blue colors (many reasons: bad contacts, projector tubes dead, and other...). Try to give some "tabs" to diagnose ... I don't know what is the type of your Projection TV, how long you owned it, to have more idea.
Have you checked for dust on the Tubes and mirror? This may cause a bad picture quality. Also power supply related problems like capacitors can cause a dark picture. Try replacing some of them in the power supply area and line stage. Also adjustments in the service mode, but for this you will need the service manual. Good Luck,JUS004
