Question about Frigidaire FRS23R4C Side by Side Refrigerator

Fridge and Freezer working intermittently; not getting cold and making a vibrating sound

The last few days my fridge and freezer have been working intermittently (The full model is FRS23R4CW0). It will cool and freeze as normal for about a day, then cease for about the same time. The only indicator of it not working, apart from the lack of it being cold, is a vibrating sound that lasts for about 3-seconds, ends with a distinctive click, and reoccurs about 5 minutes later. Other than that the fridge sounds as if it is working normally - all the usual sounds. I pulled the unit out to determine where the noise was coming from and it appears to outside, somewhere at the rear base where the motor etc is housed. Any suggestions would be a big help?

That is exactly what it was. Thanks! I called out the appliance repair crew today and they are replacing the compressor, under warranty, next week. The only problem I did have, sort of, was that the unit was working when they arrived. Fortunately, I had recorded the sound with my digital camera so they could pick the problem from that.

Dave, what you are hearing is the overload kicking out on the compressor. It's one of two things, either the compressor is failing or PTC (overload, relay) is going bad. I haven't seen too many PTC's fail on Frigidaire, but I have seen a lot of compressors failing. Your refrigerator will have a 5 year warranty, parts and labor if the compressor is at fault. You would have to do some tests on the compressor to determine which one is at fault. If you have a clamp on ammeter you can see how many amps the compressor is drawing during start and run. The compressor should have a label on it with the amperage information. You could just replace the PTC, part number 218721119 and see if the problem goes away but you could be throwing away money here if the compressor is the problem. With out being there, my guess would be the compressor itself. Catriver...post back.

Our sharp fridge/freezer model SJ-45F-WH ISNT GETTING COLD IN THE FRIDGE. THE FREEZER IS WORKING PERFECTLY.WE HAVE TURNED IT OFF FOR A FEW HOURS AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN. THAT WORKED LAST TIME.Not now.

If your freezer is full of food move everything about an inch away from the back wall. This should let the air flow better the fridge gets its cold air from the freezer. So you have to make sure your not blocking the vents.

I defrosted the freezer last week and the fridge will not get cold the light in the fridge is working and so is the freezer.

There is nothing that work in the fridge it is just a box everything comes from the freezer. Check if the fan is running this is how the fridge gets its cold air. Check your freezer setting in your fridge. make sure it says warmer fridge. it a door that opens and closes.

Freezer on bottom is cold, refrigerator on top is warm. 2 days before failure there was a vibration noise intermittently between fridge and freezer that stoppped if freezer door was shut hard

This is a little strange to hear but something caused the vibration. Closing the doors hard or soft may make big changes in sound because of pressure change. I just want to know if the compressor is purring away without overheating. Anytime there is a restriction in ventilation the evaporator fan will struggle to push the air to the freezer and enough to refrigerator side to maintain safe temperatures. On the bottom even if the fan stopped the bottom would work because it is below and cold is heavier than warm. I will look over your parts breakdown to see what vent, dampers or fans that may cause this, work with me on this and I will help you solve this. Thanks Sea Breeze

LG Refrigerator has no cold air for fridge but freezer works fine

Sounds like the freezer fan(FF)is wearing out, This problem is very hard to diagnose because the fan spins but not fast enough to circulate the chilled air thru the freezer and refrigerator. This repair costs parts and labor around $300.00

Freezer works, fridge doesn't cool

Probably excessive ice in the condensor. Likely defrost thermostat or defrost heater problem.

What happens is excessive ice keeps airflow from the refrigerator part of the unit.

Frost Free, freezer ok but fridge warm

If all else fails I would completely defrosted the unit.If there is any blockage this will open up all the tubes.Unplug it open the doors put pans of hot water in the freezer to speed up the process.
Make sure your fan is still working ,its located behind the freezers back wall. If it is working the vent from the freezer down to the refridgerater may be blocked. With out a fan you have no circulation but your freezer may look likes its working,it may last 3 days. Also if you can move everything out unplug it turn it off w/ doors open 12 to 24 hrs this will free up any clogged tubes. Good luck.
