Question about GE Spectra JGBP35 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

GE LR44 model JGBP34 doesn't sense Bake/Broil/Clean buttons

If I push any of the Bake/Broil/Clean buttons on the keypad there's no response. Needless to say, you can't set a temperature and none of those functions work. Cook time and stop time buttons work and you can set the times, but of course no cooking is done, and the unit starts beeping a few seconds after those times are set. Clock and timer functions work, and increase/decrease arrows work for those functions. Stovetop burners work fine.

Circuit board repair is your only alternative to shelling out $200 for a replacement. Take the control box out of the stove and remove the top board, which is just relays and interface connectors to the AC power and bake/broil burners. Under this is a complex circuit board, also to be removed. You have to unbend tabs to do these removals, and make sure that all the inter-board connector pins are properly mated when reassembling and rebending tabs. On the underside of the circuit board I found corroded spots under each of the 3 electrolytic capacitors on the board. Very suspicious. I replaced the caps and had to patch two traces on the board with jumpers, and this fixed the problem! You may as well try this (or have a nerdly pal try it) since you have nothing to lose and possibly $200 to save.

Oven beeps and reads F2

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

F2 (During Bake)
- Oven Control Senses Oven Temperature Above 615F-630F - If temperature has exceeded 615F-630F, check for welded contacts on bake and broil relays. If present, replace control board (clock). If temperature has NOT exceeded 615F-630F, check sensor, sensor harness, and the sensor harness connection at sensor and oven control. If found defective, replace sensor. Also check for any causes of high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit.

F2 (During Clean)
- Oven Control Senses Oven Temperature Above 915F-930F - If temperature has exceeded 915F-930F, check for welded contacts on the bake and broil relays. If present, replace control board (clock). If temperature has NOT exceeded 915F-930F, check sensor, sensor harness, and the sensor harness connection at sensor and oven control. If found defective, replace sensor. Also check for any causes of high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit.

GE Profile gas range - Model Number removed by previous owners. Black slide in range with warming drawer - 5-10 years old. Digital oven controls on left side Broil and Bake functions are reversed. When...

Unplug the range.
I would open the control console and locate the BAKE/BROIL terminals on the Oven control. I would reverse the wires, plug the range in and try again.
Sounds to me like someone has changed out a part and wired it wrong.

GE kitchen range model J3220RIWH turn to bake only bottom element heats up. turn to broil top element heats up so it's not burned out. should'nt both elements heat up on bake.

Not necessarily. Some models never use the broil element to bake and some cycle between the two but not both on at the same time.

Bake mode will not work

Is the bake igniter working ? There are two igniters one for bake and one for broil My guess is that the bake igniter is bad and only the broil igniter is working. part #WB2X9154.

Broiler will work, but oven wont

Could be the bake igniter is bad and broil igniter is still good. may need to replace the bake igniter you will need a complete model number off range to determine the part number of the igniteryou may need.

Bake button doesn't work even after ignitor replaced

While unlikely, the ignitor in theory could have damaged the ERC (main oven control) it is more likely you have a bad keypad. Try pressing and holding bake and broil pads at the same time for 5 seconds and see if the display shows SF (will look like 5F). If it does, press the start button and try again bake again

"F-1" flashing code

My tech. data sheet for a GE type LR44, model JGBP34 says F0 and F1 mean a failed transistor on the electronic control board. If that's your problem, you're probably out $100-200 for the replacement part.

GE Profile JGB97 Self Cleaning Oven Controls won't work

It sounds like the controls have been placed into a lockout mode. If your model is a JGBP79 do the following:
1) Press the BAKE and BROIL HI/LO pads at the same time for 3 seconds until the
display shows SF.
2) Press the SELF CLEAN pad. The display will show LOC OFF.

Now here is where the directions are kind of confusing, I will give it as they say it:

3) Press the SELF CLEAN pad again. The display will show LOC.
4) Press the START pad to activate the control lockout feature and leave
the control set in this special features mode.

Seems to me if its locked already, you would just do steps 1 and 2. And if you wish to lock it do steps 1 thru 4.

Digital Control (for oven temp and clock adjustment) not working

Puzzeled, usually when there is a stuck or shorted keypad there will be an error code. First let's see if we can tell if we are in Centigrade or Ferenhiet. Press the bake and broil button together for 2 or 3 seconds. SF should appear in the display. Press the broil pad again and C or F will be displayed. Toggle to F and press start. See if that was the problem. If not try to increase the speed of the + and - keypads. Press bake and broil together for 2 seconds until SF displays. Press the + keypad increase the speed of the control. It should toggle from 1 to 5, 5 being the fastest. Press start and see if that works. If niether works..then have someone remove the keypad ribbon cable from the control board and clean the ends with an eraser. See if that solves the issue...Catriver..post back and let me know.
