Hi, I have already tried that and mine still isn't working?? No yellow flag, in fact it is all green and says it is working properly. I have sound when the computer starts up but not with any programs. Mine started out only going out when the power cord was unplugged or plugged back in. Now it is out all the time. ?? Any more advice?
    Thanks

I suppose this issue comes after I installed Windows updates. The sound drivers seems to conflict with the windows vista patches.
Please suggest if there's any other reason and probable solution.

First thing to do is check if your soundcard driver is behaving.

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager

and check if the soundcard driver is flagged with a yellow exclamation. If this is the case, head off to the Sony site and try to download a new copy of your sound drivers to install.

If this doesn't work, post back here to see what to try next.

If it is a USB device - disconnect andinsert into another USB port - it will re-install the drivers.

Otherwise uninstall the programme using add/remove programmes in control panel and reinstall.

Windows XP drivers for Sony VAIO Laptop

There is no easy answer for this type of question, unfortunately. The best I can do is offer some advice. While installing XP is always possible, and most of the time preferred by the user, not all of the hardware will work every time with every computer. That's just a disclaimer. I think this thread may be useful to you: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=128804

Sound

Go to the Sony web-site and select "Service & Support" => "Drivers and Software".
Enter in the model vaio that you have and download the latest Sound driver. Install that and you should get your sound back.
