Wacom Intuos3 Tablet driver crash in photoshop

While im painting/drawing in photoshop 7.0, I will periodicly get an error message that sais that "the pen tablet driver has a problem, please reboot. If this problem persists, redownload the driver." After i close the error message the Tablet stops working all togethor and i have to restart my computer.

When i restart my computer, the tablet starts working perfectly fine again. As you can see, this leads to inconsistant work and a very frustrated user...

ive downloaded the latest driver and have redownloaded it countless times and still get the error message. i get the same error message when i work in photoshop elements 5.0 as well.

This problem only occurs with photoshop, other programs do not cause the crash, so i think that its either photoshop causing the crashes or the tablet doesnt like photoshop which would be odd considering that the tablet comes with photoshop elements 5.0...

Im on a windows XP sp2 if that helps anyone.

jeez long problem, but can anyone help fix this? i would be within your eternal gratitude.

I have the exact same problem as you, and I can tell you I am frustrated like HELL.

My Intuos crashes with ALL graphics applications I use though. I tried downloading and installing four various drivers already, but nothing works. If anyone could help, I too would be very grateful.

I'm so glad to find out I'm not alone! I'm having all the same issues with the Intuos 3 (PTZ) it's beyond maddening!!! It crashes within 7 seconds of painting with any brush that has angle jitter set to 'direction'. It spastically zooms in and out and scrolls up and down to the point that I have to crash my Mac Pro. My graphire never had any trouble at all but it's not compatible with the intel chip so there's no going back.

I have all the same problems with the intuos 3, I hate it!! It crashes photoshop CS3 within 7 seconds of painting with any brush that has angle jitter set to 'direction'. It spastically zooms in and out to the point that it locks everything up and I have to crash the Mac pro just to get out. It's the worst peripheral I've ever bought!!

I didn't have this problem for an entire month while using the Intuos3 and suddenly it happened today! It crashes for Photoshop CS2 and PaintTool SAI 1.01 for me. ARGH!

  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2009

Scrollbar (zooming) goes crazy, it just happens randomly I can sometimes paint for hours with it without any problems problems. And some other times it ony takes a couple minutes. Even happens when im simply using windows and not a graphic applications (intuos 3) Pretty weird... If I reebot it fixes itself. If I manually kill the wacom drivers in the process managers it also goes away. But if just unplug the tablet it changes nothing (scrollbar goes up and down very fast) BTW I have a logitech (6boutons laser mouse) that uses proprietary drivers.

    No solution found yet.Please help!

I can't edit at all in Photoshop Elements 5.0 anymore, and I think it's my Intuous 3 causing the problem. I have searched their site for known issues and find nothing. I'd love to hear if anyone finds a solution. Every time I try to edit in PE5, my computer freezes up so badly that unplugging it is the only option--ugh!

I have a Wacom Intuous3 4x5, and I'm not sure if it has pressure sensitivity or not. How can I tell?

Install drivers, open graphics editopr like Photoshop and choose freehand drawing. When you draw and thicknes of line changes with pressure applied then you are sure that it is pressure sensitive.

I can't install my Intuos3 onto Vista

I don't think there are any programs for the Wacom. I don't see any on my computer. Open photoshop and see if the tablet works in there.

Hello! I own a Intuos3 Wacom tablet and I am having problems with it. My old laptop did not recognize discs, so I installed my tablet using one of the drivers from the download section and it worked just...

I'm getting the same problem - for some reason it's removed all pen pressure sensitivity recognition from the tablet. I'm going to try re-installing the drivers tonight, I'll get back to you if I figure it out.

My Wacom Intuos3 tablet won't switch into pen mode

The winning answer came courtesy of Mr Benedikt Schmitt of Wacom Europe, who offered the following solution: from the Windows Device Manager, disable the “Wacom Virtual Hid Driver” device. (Go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Device Manager, find the driver, right-click it and choose “Disable”.) One reboot later (welcome to Windows-land, circa 2008?), everything works as desired. Pressure and tilt sensitivity inside Photoshop still work, and the pen functions just fine in the rest of the Windows desktop. The absolute mapping makes it an absolute pleasure to point quickly and precisely. It makes my laser mouse feel rather clumsy navigating a large 24′ screen!

Pressure sensitivity problem in Photoshop CS3

OK, I found the problem -- if you open photoshop with the mouse (whether it be through the quicklaunch bar, start menu, or desktop icon), the pressure sensitivity doesn't work. If you open it with the stylus or function button (I have a function button mapped for photoshop now because of this, since there's no icon on my tablet's display with how I have my display set up) the pressure sensitivity works fine.

A quick KIND of fix, but until Adobe actually does something about it, this is probably the easiest way to do it.
