Buzzing/humming sound from rear of TV unaffected by volume settin

The TV is about 1 1/2 years old and the buzzing/humming sound has become quite noticeable. It does not change when you adjust the volume (it's the same even if the volume is muted).

Take it back and see if another does the same thing before you get out of the store. There's something loose in the backlight circuit, like a power inductor. They shouldn't do that.

I'm pretty sure that the buzzing sound is a not normal thing for an LCD TV. I sell Flat Panels during my spare time and it should be as quiet as a CRT types. It is more likely a defect and you should return it ASAP.
Hope this helps.

Humming sound

Samsung states - A buzzing sound from your plasma TV is normal. It is caused by the electrical charges used to create the images on the screen. The buzzing, however, should not be so loud that you can hear it when the volume on the TV is set at normal levels. It is also important to determine the type of buzzing sound. A sound like a ground hum is completely normal. This buzzing can originate near the power cord connection or from the SMPS board position on the upper back of the TV. The buzz will be more audible as contrast increases on the screen, most notably when displaying an all white screen. If the buzzing sound is loud, you may have the Contrast set too high. Lower the contrast to reduce or eliminate the buzzing. You may also have loud buzzing if the rear of your Plasma TV is too close to a wall or other hard surface. Try moving your TV away from the wall until the buzzing is minimized. [1]
If the buzzing is at a higher frequency and resembles a crackling sound (like the sound of Velcro being pulled apart), and originates from the upper middle back of the TV, you likely have a failing SMPS board. Place a support call with Samsung to have the SMPS board replaced.FP-T5084 Have a known buzzing problem with a very simple fix.If the buzzing is coming from the left or right sides of the rear and the volume can be changed by pressing lightly on those locations, you are probably hearing the vibration of the grounding springs on the back panel. Call Samsung (or whoever) and have a technician confirm the problem. The easiest fix is to insulate the offending spring by applying some felt tape.

I have a Vizio 42' and a cable box and there's a constant humming

I think I had the same problem. This is how I fixed it.

I have my vizio 42 hooked up to a Harmon Kardon surround sound, and the digital cable box. Essentially, I can adjust the volume 3 ways - through the tv, cable box or av receiver. The humming sound happens when you have the volume maxed out on the av receiver and not the cable box.

For example, the sound level on my Harmon Kardon goes from -10 (lowest) to 10 (loudest), with 0 being the middle ground. The buzzing was happening when the Harmon Kardon was set to 10, and I was using the cable box volume to adjust the sound. To fix it, I turned down the volume on my receiver to 0, which may be about 50% max volume of the receiver. Then, I switched devices and used the volume on my cable box. This got rid of the static I was getting. Hope that helps.

I also have the same microwave model and with the same problem. It is not quite 2 years old. I have a service call scheduled but did e-mail customer service at Whirlpool to inform them of this. Sounds like it could be defective model and a fire hazard. You should also inform them of yours.

The noise from the TV is called 60 cycle hum and it is caused by a capacitor that is open, a test for ripple voltage will confirm this The noise from the VCR is more then likely common mode noise which would not be heard but for the bad capacitors in the TV. Simply put the common mode noise is being added to the 60 cycle hum. Now for how to fix this, if you have a background in electronics you can use a schematic, multimeter and an oscilloscope and Multimeter to find the bad capacitors, and the schematic to tell you what the voltages and %ripple should be. If you do not have a background in electronics, take the set to be repaired
