I can't get it to select the photo paper tray. When I try to print a photo it defaults to the plain paper tray. Where do I access that setting?
    Thanks.

This should not be a problem at all, that message only means that (as it says) the photo tray is not engaged, and so you are going to print on the main tray. This is meant as a warning, not as an error message, and it shouldn't be getting in your way of printing.

Make sure the paper try is properly attached. Try to unplug the power of your pinter and the USB cable for about 2-3 minutes. Restart your computer. Plug the USB and power to the printer then turn it back on.

Printer will not print properly, say photo tray not engaged.

take out the photo tray if you can and put it back into its place /
turn off the printer and turn it back on . if it works fine if it does not ,the sensor is bad .
it gives you this message only if the paper try is not inserted properly or it is a false error message .

The printer is printing blank pages it is a kodak all in one 5300 lazer printer

Try removing all of the paper in the tray, fanning it and replace it. This sometimes happens when pages stick to each other. i've seen static electricity do this in the winter, and humidity do it in the summer.

In fact, I had a similar problem with my Kodak 5500 just yesterday. We've had 9 inches on rain in the past 2 weeks, and the air has been excessively humid. When I picked up the pages to reinsert them in the tray I could feel the dampness in the paper.

Hi-

If your product is still within the warranty period from KOdak then you can call them up for some step by step troubleshooting to help you with your problem and as well they can replace the printer if defective.

Try this first

Calibrate your printer, then print a demo sheet.
  1. If paper is in the photo paper tray, remove it.
  2. Load photo paper into the photo tray.
    1. Fan the paper to keep the sheets from sticking together. IMPORTANT: Do not overload the photo tray.
    2. Load a maximum of 20 sheets into the photo tray, with the Kodak logo facing up.
    3. Engage the photo tray by pushing it in until it stops. p289_0006aa.jpg
  3. Calibrate your printer.
    1. Press Menu.
    2. Select Calibrate Printer, then press Start.
    3. Wait for your printer to print the calibration sheet.
    4. Place the calibration sheet face down on the scanner glass.
      • For the 5300 AiO printer, place the sheet on the front right corner of the scanner glass.
      • For the 5500 AiO printer, place the sheet on the left rear corner of the scanner glass.
    5. Press Start.
    6. Wait until "Calibration complete. Remove calibration page from scanner glass. Press OK to continue." appears on the LCD display.
    7. Remove the calibration sheet from the scanner glass, then press OK.
  4. Print a demo sheet.
    1. Disengage the photo tray by sliding it towards you until it stops. When the photo tray is disengaged, the main tray is active.
    2. Select Print Demo Page, then press Start.
    3. Wait for the demo sheet to print.

Then call them if issue Persist at these numbers:

In the U.S. and Canada: 1-800-421-6699

Kodak 5300 wont print on glossy side of photo paper

I just sussed this issue out. On the front of the printer tray there is another pull out tray, this opens up and must activate the photo printing for A4 because it stops the paper falling on the floor once printed (cos once printed on photo paper it may still be wet). As soon as I opened the tray (and it then opens again - you'll see what I mean) it printed A4 photo paper perfectly
Hope this helps others
