This is actually really simple. I was trying to figure this out for a while. While the phone is on you simply hold down the star key (under the 7) and the phone will vibrate and say it is in vibrate mode. Then power down the phone. The next time you restart it...no annoying jet engine sounds on startup. Viola!

You can simply turn off or disable airplane mode by following these steps: 1. Press the Application Icon. 2. Then, click Settings and choose More. 3. Next, tap Airplane Mode to change the settings. Make it sure you`ve Unchecked Airplane Mode. 4. You can now go back to the Home Screen by clicking the Home Key.

Using the Lock key
To use the Lock key to turn off Airplane mode, perform the following steps: 1. At the Home screen, press and hold the Power/Lock key on the right side of your phone.
2. At Airplane mode, tap On or Off.
Using the Settings menu
To turn the Airplane mode on or off using the Settings menu, perform the following steps: 1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Wireless controls.
4. Tap Airplane mode to turn on or off.
To restore the ringer it will depend on what mode your phone is in:
Vibrate Mode: Sets the phone to vibrate instead of ring.
To set Vibrate Mode, with the flip open, press and hold the # key .
To return to Normal Mode, press and hold the # key again.
Sounds Off Mode: Quickly deactivate your phone's sounds when you're in a place where phone sounds would be disruptive.
From standby mode with the flip open, press and hold the lower side volume key for 3 seconds. To return to normal sounds mode, press and hold the upper side key.
Airplane Mode: Turning on Airplane Mode will disable all wireless communications.
1) With the flip open, press the Menu key. 2) Use the Directional Key (top center of phone) to scroll to 'Settings and Tools'. 3) Press the 6 key for Phone Settings. 4) Press the 1 key for Airplane Mode. 5) Use the Directional Key to highlight a setting, then press OK. On/Off

"Sometimes you may want to have your phone on,but turn off its ability to make and receive calls, such as when you are on an airplane.
To set your phone so that it cannot make or receive phone calls, Direct Connect calls, Group Connect calls, Talkgroup Calls; or transfer data:
1 From the main menu, select Settings >
Advanced > Airplane Mode.
2 Set this option to On.
This icon U appears.
Note: Pressing p for more than 5 seconds also
turns on Airplane mode.
To restore your phone?s ability to do all these
