SOURCE: beater bar on Dyson upright won't turn when handle is lowered
I have finally fixed my sister's dyson dc 15 beater bar problem. It was just 2 tiny broken wires connect to circuit board lead to the beater bar. The wires broke where they go through the black rubber gommet. You need a torx screwdriver tx 15 to remove 2 plastic covers to access the wires. When looking at the front of the vacuum, the gray covers located on the right side of the vacuum. 1 big cover with a black rubber gasket and other small gray cover is on the rotating ball area.
This my new year resolution is to warn people not to buy Dyson vacuum cleaner ( Junk) design to break down! Shame on you Dyson!!!! Save your money find good old vacuum cleaner with metal parts.
OLD IS IN NEW IS JUNK!
Happy New Year!
SOURCE: correct position of beater bar on a Dyson DC14?
Not exactly a solution, but more of an explanation. The noise is caused by a ratchet device that's designed to protect the belt if the brush roller becomes blocked. It's a bit like a clutch that slips when resistance on the brush gets too great. The noise will occur if there's a solid blockage, of course, but it will also occur whenever the machine senses excessive resistance. This may happen on carpets with really thick pile, but can also happen if the carpet is loosely fitted and can be sucked up tight to the roller by the force of the vacuum.
Small consolation, but the problem should lessen as the brush wears. Meanwhile, if all else fails, switch the brush off (hard floors mode) while vacuuming the problem carpet(s).
SOURCE: dyson DC 14 lost suction to beater bar/ suction to hose/stick
My Dyson DC14 had no suction...see if this works...turn the Dyson upside down...there is a length of hose that connects the bottom of the vacuum to the top, careful remove one end of the hose and check for debris...mine was clogged. Removed the clog and voila...it works. Thanks for the above info on checking the hose for cracks.

check to see if the belt is broken or loose and have a technician look at the clutch to see if its burnt out.
Testimonial: "it was somethimg simple, the wheels were'nt releasing. thank you. Bruce"
SOURCE: We have a dyson dc14 and the beater bar stopped
Hi its Darran at Dyson.
Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when the machine is locked upright. When you release the head and pull the handle back this dial should mopve forward to the on position. Once here, the brush bar should turn.
If this doesnt resolve the problem, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).
Kind regards
Darran
