Question about Kenmore 44102 Front Load Washer
Hi my Kenmore washer is making these loud thumping noises when it starts to spin cycle (when draining the water form clothes). It seems its gradual as well, the faster the spin the louder the thumping so I think the drum is hitting up against something inside. This had happened before some time ago with the same machine, we just put too much clothing and overloaded the drum and put stress on the motor perhaps, gotten a repairman to fix it didn't say clearly what part of the machine was broken. Now its making that same noise again would appreciate any advice or solution.
I just went through the same issue with my Kenmore front loading washing machine. I assumed (and a Sears repairman also told me) that it is the bearings. After I took the drum assembly out, I saw the rear drum broken and the inner tub hitting the outer tub. I ordered the outer drum assembly and only when I took the inner drum assembly out I realized the the "Spider" attached to the inner drum (and spindle) was broken. Entire drum assembly cost $417 + shipping and it may be cheaper in the long run to buy a new washer. I like the front loaders because they save water and good for the environment, but the US manufacturers have not yet perfected the technology like European manufacturers (or they don't want the machines to last too long just like cars). Anyway, I am looking into welding the spider tomorrow. If not will return the outer tub assembly and buy a top loading washer for $300!

When washer goes into spin cycle, the tub will start to spin, then the tub starts to wobble and then alarm sounds

A spring or a shock is an easy diy job, but if it is the arm.........Manually spin the internal drum from the open door to see if it moves smoothly when it is empty. If it is irregular or stuck somewhat it could be the spider arm which is not easy........

If the washer is a front loading washer, it is probable that a spring, shock or one of the internal arms holding the drum in place is broken. if it is the arm, internal to the drum, this is covered by a lifetime parts warrranty and the drum needs replaced. If it is a spring or shock, and it is past the one year anniversary, you will pay for the parts and labor.
